    3. Joyce -- do you have approximate dates for Ruth Cloud and the NC county she was associated with? 3. I show that James Sturdivant, father of William died after 1850. His wife came to Hamilton Co., IN with her son and new wife.Carolyn Bowers Jackson. between 1850-1860 because she shows up on census of 1860 in Hamilton Co., IN I show that Ruth Cloud died between 1842-1850 in Surry or Stokes Co., NC. Her last child was born July 26, 1842, and she died after that. I show that William and Carolyn Bowers Jackson had their first child in Surry Co., NC The next child was born in 1854 Hamilton Co., IN. I have not found any information on where Ruth Cloud died or even where James Sturdivant is buried. I hope this information helps. 3. Joyce -- the reason I was interested in your Ruth Cloud from Surry or Stokes Co., NC, is that it is one more piece of evidence that ties the Clouds of that area -- most if not all descending from the the Surry-Stokes settler we call Joseph Cloud of Peter's Creek (abt. 1710 -- abt 1779) to the Jos. Cloud who was living adjacent to Isaac Cloud in Brunswick Co., VA, in the 1740s and who was without doubt his brother. Isaac had two daughters, Elizabeth and Ruth, the latter named -- I believe -- for Ruth Jervis Cloud of Chester Co., PA, whom I think was the mother of Isaac and Joseph. Assuming that I'm right, I would have expected the name "Ruth" to be carried forward in Joseph's family, and you seem to be confirming that. Unfortunately, as you know, the records of the times are often silent with regard to females, and we know the names of very few of those early Cloud women in NC.
