Does anyone know who William Cloud b. ca 1720 (only a guess) in VA is ?? He m. Alice Hardin (or maybe Alis ??). She was the dau of Mark Hardin and Marie Madeline De La Chaumette Hogue. thanks, Tom Cloud
This is from "William Cloud: Pennsylvania Proprietor 1682" by Rachel Adams Cloud Pond: "William CLOUD, Jr; son of William and Elizabeth (HAYES) CLOUD; died 1810-11; Will 14 March 810; proved 30 Aug 1811, Chester Co., So. Carolina (from Boddie, which lists children, David CLOUD, Ann FORD, Alice BOYLSTON, Joseph CLOUD; and William and Vincent Bell CLOUD, sons of William's son Daniel, deceased); married Alice HARDIN (Boddie, p. 73-77; Virkus, v. 5, p. 126) daughter of Mark HARDIN, whose will is found in Prince William County, Virginia, Will Bk. C, p. 36; dted 16 March 1734; pro. 21 May 1735; naming eldest son, John HARDIN, sons Martin and Henry HARDIN; daus. Elizabeth, Ann, and Alis (Alice); Wit.: Thos. SIMON, Daniel SHUMATE, Judith SHUMATE, Elizabeth ROYLSTON. Note that Martin HARDIN, brother of Alice and Elizabeth HARDIN, married Lydia WATERS, and had a daughter Catherine HARDIN, born about 1755, married about 1771 in Fauquier County, Virginia (co-seat, Warrenton) to John RAMEY. John and Cathering (HARDIN) RAMEY were parents of Sarah RAMEY, who married James CLOUD, grandson of Henry and Eleanor (WILLIAMS) CLOUD; James being a grand-nephew of William CLOUD, Jr. of this sketch. William CLOUD, Jr. inherited Delaware land from his father. Virkus' Compendium of American Biography, v.5, p. 126, states that William CLOUD (Jr.) was in Grayson County, Virginia, and then moved about 1751 to Rowan Co., North Carolina. A descendant, Mrs. E.D. Luhrin, wrote that he and his family were in the present Chester County, So. Carolina before 1770, co-seat, Chester, S.C., when their son Joseph CLOUD was born there. Thanks for the information. This William Cloud is the brother of my ancestor, Mordecai Cloud (b 1692, m first Sara Chads), both sons of Jeremiah Cloud and Elizabeth Baily.
