Fulkerson says, "The Pioneer Cloud of Cloud's Ferry came from Va to Cloud's Ferry on Clinch River, which is five miles east of Howard's Quarter, at a very early day. He married Jane Carpenter of Va. His children were: Betsy, who married John Devault; Malinda, married James Mitchell; Polly, married Joseph Mills; Henry, removed to Mo.; Greenbury, removed to Mo.; Calvin, removed to Mo.; Burl; Benjamin." Continuing research has proven that "Pioneer" Cloud was, indeed, Joseph. Joseph died between11 Aug & 11 Nov in 1823. The only thing in the above article which I suspect is incorrect is where he says Jane CARPENTER came from VA -- it is my belief she came with the group from Wilkes Co NC. Ken mentioned that Malinda was b 1814 which is not correct. Her tombstone gives her birth as 1806. She d in 1896 at Clever, Christian Co MO, and is bur in Wise Hill Cem, Christian Co MO.
