Tom -- I have a rough map of S. Carolina in 1770, which shows divisions by parish. Whether the parishes had political status I don't know. It was in 1719 that the proprietors relinquished their rights in Carolina. An earlier map refers to "proprietary counties." Maybe after proprietary rule, S. Carolina went to a parish system.
