I suggest that you visit your local library and look in W. W. Hinshaw's "Enclyopedia of American Quaker Genealogy" to determine if your Joseph Watkins was a Quaker. Joseph Watkins filed suit against William Cloud in Pittsylvania County, VA in 1772. Suit was dismissed by the court. A power of attorney was issued from William Atwood & Sarah Atwood to Absalom Watkins in the Stokes County, NC County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions on Dec. 3, 1792. A deed of conveyance from George Watkins to William Chandler was proved in Stokes County Court in Dec., 1790. Henry Watkins was ordered to serve on a Stokes County jury in June, 1793. This is all I have on the Watkins family. As I was reading an article about Joseph Cloud, Sr., I was surprised to see the name of Joseph Watkins, Sr. there. I will quote here: > > QUOTE > 1755 > Joseph Cloud, Sr. buys 150 acres of land on the south side of Dan River from JOSEPH WATKINS, SR. Price 45 pounds of VA money. Witnesses, Richard Crunk, Elias Brock and Mary Crunk. Joseph Cloud became deputy surveyor. Apparently, six children grew to maturity, Joseph, Jr., Jason, Isaac, George, William and Nancy. > UNQUOTE > > By any chance, do you have anything of Joseph Watkins, Sr. to share with me? Was he a Quaker? What was the relationship between Joseph Watkins, Sr. and Joseph Cloud, Sr.? I know that I am grasping straws but what if my Joseph's daughter married a Cloud? It would be neat if it were so! Thanks in advance. > > Lois in Georgia > gggg granddaughter of Joseph Watkins, Sr. > > > ==== CLOUD Mailing List ==== > .................................................................. > Have you submitted your Cloud lineage to the List? > Submit a brief description of your ancestry. >
