WRT the Cloud web presence (history): Cecil Stokes - set up the first CFA page - hsv.tis.net/~cstokes/CFA/ - set up the first Cloud genealogy pages at genweb.net/~cloud/ - set up the current site at homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/ All the "free" sites were drying up (genweb.net croaked) or becoming commercial to pay the bills (ancestry bought rootsweb), and many of us were getting worried. Wanting to get away from the commercialization of rootsweb and the compromising of data posted there (hopefully only a brief indiscretion) and at other commercial sites (esp. FTM/FTW) several of us investigated creating our own site. From that was born the mykindred.com site -- set up to be both a mirror of the homepages.rootsweb site and a place where multiple families (collateral lines) could share their information. ... all that said -- trying to maintain the sites is time-consuming and we're not professionals in this area.
