Funeral service was Sunday, Aug. 31, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in San Angelo with the Rev. Rusty Frasier officiating. Burial followed in Belvedere Memorial Park. Mr. Cox was born March 2, 1919, in McCullough County to David and Rosie Cloud Cox. He married Josephine Barto on Nov. 24, 1939, in Sonora. Henry served during World War II in the Army with an infantry rifle squad. He was wounded in the Philippines and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He raised his family in Barnhart where they lived from 1947-69 when they moved to San Angelo. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department from 1950-81 when he retired. Henry was a member of Barnhart School Board, 4-H lamb leader, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, member of Order of Purple Heart and a member of Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by three sons, Paul W. Cox, James H. Cox Jr. and James David Cox; a daughter, Sandra Kay Cox; parents David S. and Rosie Cox; three brothers, Harley Cox, Harvey Cox and Sylvester (Bud) Cox; and three sisters, Leona Wheeler, Thelma Wood and Elizabeth Teters. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Josephine; children Nancy Hale and husband, Eddie, of Ozona; Myrtle Clamon and husband, Norman, of Boyd; daughter-in-law Vikkie Cox of Waco; grandchildren Edward Hale Jr. and wife, Laurie, of Ozona; Leslie James Hale and wife, Katrece, of Ozona; Steve Clamon and wife, Carmen, of Paradise; Delisa Whit and husband, Richie, of Boyd; Cavin Clamon and wife, Katrina, of Boyd; Dr. Tammie Cox of Brownwood and Eric Cox and wife, Jennifer, of Ben Brook; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
