    2. Harry: Ref: P.S. regarding 1850 U.S. Census, Tennessee, Claiborne, Subdivision 7. Here are the exact words in the actual census: Dwg. 23, Fam. 23, Susan Cloud, 60, F, .., 1200, Tenn; Leander Cloud, 27, M, Farmer, 800, Tenn; Greenville Cloud, 20, M, Farmer, 500, Tenn; Nancy A Cloud, 20, F, .., Tenn; Louisa Cloud, 15, F, .., Tenn; Louisa McClary (sp?) 10, F, .., Tenn; Cleary (sp?) McClary, 8, F, .., Tenn; Elizabeth McClary, 6, F, .., Tenn; Green B. Banster (close illegible), 26, M, Laborer, Tenn; Madison Mullins, 8, M, Tenn. Living nearby in next recorded Dwg 24, Fam. 24 is Henry Cloud, 37, Farmer, Tenn; Jane Cloud, 36, (blank), N. Carolina; J.B. Cloud, 19, M, .., Tenn; B.F. Cloud, 12, M, ..Tenn; Wiley Vanburan Cloud, 10, M, Tenn; William H. Cloud, 8, M, Tenn; Mary Cloud, 5, F, Tenn; Augustus Cloud, 4, M, Tenn; Nancy B. Cloud, 5/12 F, Tenn. [inserts added] Note: There are a lot of clues in the above 1850 Census. I have a hunch we have the grandparents and son Henry and family living nearby. Note that one son of Henry Cloud is B.F. Cloud age 12 born about 1838. I believe this is our Dr. Benjamin Cloud. We also have William H. Cloud age 8, born about 1842. If my memory serves me correctly, someone was looking for him. Is this the "Jane" we are looking for? As for "Greenville" this could have been what the census taker heard. Note also that in some cases the name Greenberry is stated as Green B. Could Greenberry be the nik name for a Greenville B ? This is not my wife's line but I hope this helps someone. Ron Wilson

    3. Ron -- thanks. It raises some questions, and you may be right about B. F., the son of this Henry, being the later Dr. Benj. Franklin Cloud. The only Claiborne Co. Henry I find in my data is a son of Joseph and Jane (Carpenter) Cloud. And that squares with Henry's age (37). Your theory about "Green Berry" is interesting, but I know that Greenberry (sometimes Green Berry) was a pretty popular name at the time. You would expect Susannah Cloud's husband to name a son after his brother Greenberry. Where "Greenville" would have come from, I have no idea.
