Now Joe, you are muddying the waters! I have an Elizabeth (last name unknown) marrying Robert II in 1598 as his first wife probably in St James Parish since that's where they all seemed to hang out. Maybe your William is another son of Robert I or one of his brothers? Or someone has him mixed up with Robert II? Or....? Ah, the mystery of it all! Good to know you're still out there searching.
