Harper Family- all this info will be my outline only made from Deeds and church records for Cecil CO MD and clues for De and PA connections. I took interest in the name of Thomas Harper because this name is listed with William COPE in 1697 Chester CO PA court record . I have dozens of notes on the name of Harper found in PA, MD and VA. First to England from notes' sent to me about the Oliver Cope family. Avebury, CO. Wilts , England -date 2 Jan 1681- Elizabeth COPE widow of John Cope buried 4 Oct 1649 - it seems to be in relation to the Will of John Cope father of Oliver Cope . Mr. Francis Saintbarbe- notary public- witnessed the mark of Elizabeth Cope along with John HARPER and John Traylowe - also have 8/9 Sept 1681 Oliver Cope bond money to Noah CROOKE - Taylor of Avebury, exr. of will for John Cope - there is a 32 year gap here. Note: as you can see here it appears that someone has made a guess for the maiden name of Rebecca Cope wife of Oliver as being Crooke and it appears the Oliver Cope listed as a Taylor may have learned the trade form Noah Crooke. my guess is that Rebecca Cope may be a Prew and Gilbert Cope once listed that Oliver Cope may have had a wife named Mary first which would explain the 19 year birth gap between William Cope and brother John Cope b) 1691. In 1697 John Cope was 6 years old and William Cope is at least 21 years old when he took Thomas Harper ta boy to court to be taught to read & write and to sevr William Cope for 5 years ( Thomas Harper could be 16 years old in 1697 to be released when 21 ). Cecil CO MD - Thomas Harper and wife Elizabeth - this is only my rough draft on this family and boy this this family have connections to people I have re cords on in DE and MD. Thomas & Elizabeth - hints show she may be related to Ephriam Augustine Herman and this guy is a big time land owner in New Castle CO DE and Cecil CO MD. Col. Ephriam Augustine Herman , has a wife Isabella to Thomas Harper & wife Elizabeth of Bohemia Manor 170 acres , Bohemia Mill & Indian Branch , lease term , Natural life of Thomas & Elizbeth Harper. 29 Mar 1715/16- wit: Abell V. ( Van ) Burkello and Samuel Bouchell. JP was Mathias VanBebber. Note: Mathias VanBebber marr./Lic. Hermonica Peterson 17 Nov 1705 dau. of Adam Peterson of New Castle CO DE at ST.Stephen's church , Cecil CO MD. It appears that Adam Peterson is related to Paul, Hans and Peter Peterson listed with Oliver Cope 1696/97 DE tax list. I believe the VanBurkellos are related to the VanBebbers and the name of VanBebber is found in Lunenburg CO VA 1748-1752, Pittsylvania CO VA 1767 and found with the Cope's 1790s Russell CO VA. Note: have alot more on the VanBebbers in Cecil CO MD and in my notes' copied from the internet it appears that Isacc & Fronica or Veronica of Cecil CO MD are related to Dielman KOLB a Mennonite a name found with Jost/Yost Cope 1734 Sulford, Philadelphi CO PA tax list. Thomas & Elizabeth Harper children- 1) Nicholas b) 5 June 1705 Cecil CO MD - listed ST. Stephens' church He has a wife Susannah and son Peter Harper b) 27 Jan 1728 -same church record.- this family is found with the Lawson family - Peter , David and Hugh Lawson is listed and he is on a deed here showing he lives in Lunenburg CO VA where the VanBebbers are listed . The name of Hugh Lawson I have listed to you all before and listed info on him in Rowan CO NC 1760s. 2) Thomas b) 24 Mar 1707/08 -NFI 3) Jacob b) 23 Feb 1711/12 - has wife Gartry and son Andrew b) 30 Nov 1742 4) Elizabeth b) 9 Aug 1715- marr. Evert Evertson -29 July 1731 St. Stephen's church- note: Thomas Harper on 14 Feb 1745 appoints son-in-law Evert Evertson to recover depts /Rent for plantations Bohemia River occupied by his sons -wit: Charles Coatts and Michael Manycousins. The name of Evert Evertson is listed in New Castle CO DE 23 Nov 1703 -ST. Georges Creek land to Edward Edwards of Phila. PA. notes: Evert & Elizabeth Evertson were witneses with Stephen Grudgeon to deed for Bartholomew Jacobs to son Henry Jacobs 8 Dec 1748 Cecil CO MD. Richard Bennett of Queen Annes CO MD had sold this land to Bartholomew Jacobs 20 Oct 1733 and Bart. sold land to son Jacob Jacobs late of Queen Annes CO MD 9 Mar 1742 Wit: John HARPER & Charles COATTS. Note: I have not found a connection yet to Thomas Jacobs of Cecil CO MD that I posted to you all last week. Note: The name of Stephen Grudgeon above is prob. a witness in Queen Annes CO MD . This name I have seen posted marr. to Lydia Denny and she is listed dau. of Benjamin Denny who sold land in Queen Annes CO MD to George COPE 1754. 5) John b) 24 Mar 1717/18 - I found a John Harper marr. Nov 1740 to Mary WEITHERS , Mary Harper died 22 July 1741 - sidebar- a Robert Wethers marr. Mary HOLLINGSWORTH 5.6.1726 St.Stephen's church , Cecil CO MD. Note: age is not right for Mary Weithers and John Harper. Robert & Mary Wethers have dau. Lidey b) 20 Aug 1730. Robert Withers died 20 Mar 1739- he is listed on deeds more on Withers later. 6) William - found on deeds with Thomas Harper and brothers Jacob and John. 7) James - he is listed son of Thomas & Elizabeth Harper of Bohemia baptised 1 Dec 1722 Old Swede Church, New Castle CO DE and don't know why he is listed there. I listed this info before. Next letter is the Withers family -example found in Chichester CO PA 1715 have will with Robert and Ralph Withers listed sons of Thomas Withers 1720 will. The name of Ralph Withers JP and Thomas Withers Sheriff are found 1682 with William Penn first court . Ralph Withers listed 1735 Brandywine Hundred, New Castle CO DE , 1752 Chichester deed living by Thomas LINVILLE and 1744 and 1747 Frederick CO VA deeds with Jeremiah CLOUD and John NIELL he VS William CAP in 1744.
