Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YNJ.2ACIB/920 Message Board Post: My grandparents always told me that "Missouri" Caroline Cloud Norman "was an Indian." My grandfather and his sisters sure looked "Indian," high cheekbones, olive complection, black hair into old age (OK, maybe Clairol helped my great aunts...because sometimes they were blonde) and they certainly thought so, even to the point of teasing each other about it. So where did this idea come from? Were the Clouds a Trail of Tears family? I have just begun this line of inquiry after finding Caroline. Janet

    1. Descendant of Joab Cloud
    2. John Reeb
    3. My name is John V. Reeb and I am a great-great grandson of Joab Cloud and Lucinda Jefferson who relocated to northwestern Arkansas where they lived in Madison and Washington Counties between 1860 and after 1870. I have not been able to lean who the parents of Joab Cloud were but I believe that he and his wife Lucinda Jefferson Cloud lived in Rutherford County, NC before moving to Forsyth County, Georgia before 28 Oct 1850. Lucinda is believed to have been a daughter of Bazzel Jefferson and Elizabeth Duvall. I would appreciate any information on this family which could eventually perhaps lead to the discovery of Joab Cloud's ancestry. I do know that based upon census records he was born about 1826 in North Carolina. I would also like to make contact with other descendants of Joab Cloud. John V. Reeb

    3. I am not acquainted with this Cloud family. There are fifteen Cloud families living in Knox County. Most live in the north section of the county which leads me to believe they are descendants of the pioneer Clouds of Grainger County. 3. I don't know who this George J. Cloud is, but I think I can help you with the question about the grave, anyway. I visited the Rock Island Prison over spring break. There were a great many Confederates who died while incarcerated there. There is a cemetery on the grounds which is accessible to the public. The Island is still a functioning military arsenal, but they do let people drive through to the cemetery. "grave 1881" is where George J. Cloud is buried. Wish I had know it while I was there, I would have gotten a photo of his stone.
