Hi Pat: I don't recall any of my ancestors using DULEY names related to either my KING or CLOUD family lines. However, let me suggest that you check the LDS Internet database operated by the LDS Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City, UT. They will most likely have Duley names in their database. All of my known KING and CLOUD ancestors and their known spouses are listed on LDS Family History site. I think the LDS Internet site name is FamilySearch.Org, but I am not certain. Go to Google for their current Internet address. Sorry I can't be of help to you with your genealogical question. Both were sons of a Benjamin Franklin Cloud but different Benjamin Franklin Clouds again these two were living at the same time. First, you have William M. [believed to stand for Middleton] Cloud born 20 Feb 1862 in Harlan County, Kentucky, married to Mary Jane Shoemaker. This William Cloud was the son of Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1826 in Tennessee married to Nancy Middleton died 22 Mar 1946. The had a son named Henry F. Cloud b. 30 April 1893 b. Kentucky married to Sybil Sweester. William and Mary Jane had other children: Greenberry; Eunice; Louisa; Laura; Sarah; Sarepta; Alice; Jessie; Simon; John and Bessie, all born in KY. The second was William Steven Cloud b. 27 Oct 1865 in Rose Hill, Lee County, Virgina married to Sarah Ellen Fugate and died 28 Jul 1929 and is buried in Leftwich-Edds Cemetery in Rose Hill, Lee County, VA. This William Steven Cloud b. 1865 was the son of Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. Jun 1834 in Lee County, VA and Margaret Jane Ayers. William Steven Cloud and Margaret Jane Ayers had the following children: Eula Virginia; Robert Lester, Lizzie Jane; George ("Jim"); Dorsey Lee; Nola ("Dollie") and Glessie May ("Babe"). One family lived in Rose Hill, Lee County, Virginia and the other in Harlan County, Kentucky. They were distant cousins all descendents of Captain William Cloud.

Hi Folks: The genealogy book listed below has been out of print for more than 10 years. However, I accidentally found a slightly used copy that is for sale, while doing a search on Google. They state on their Internet posting that they have about 14 used genealogy titles in stock, plus over 3,000 other books. I know nothing about the vender; but I have had a number of requests for the book that I could not fill, and I don't plan to reprint the book. So, that is why I am sending this message to possible interested parties that may wish to purchase this out of print book. The book is hard covered and is 9-3/4" x 11" with about 460 pages; it also has a name index. There is a lot of genealogical data on my KING and CLOUD family lines and many family lines that they intermarried with. My Gr-Gr-grandfathers and their families settled in Madison Co. AL and in adjacent Lincoln Co. TN during the early 1800's. Hundreds of their descendents are listed in the book. Harry: "In 1816 he left his farm (in Mulberry valley) and moved to Tazewell. He lived on the corner just opposite the entrance of the Baptist church until 1826 when he moved to Chadwell Station." From article "Old Time Tazewell" by Alexander Moore Cloud. Quoted in Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia and Adjacent Counties Volume II, compiled by Hattie Byrd Muncy Bales page 910 "Mary (Chadwell) Middleton married, 2nd. Benjamin Cloud of Claiborne County, Tenn., Dec. 29, 1801, who died in Lee County in 1845. After their marriage they settled at Chadwell Station Powell Valley, where they both died. Benjamin Cloud's will, dated 28th January 1845; codicil, dated 1st February 1845, was proved July 21, 1845. By the terms of the will, Mary (Polly) was to receive ample provisions for her natural life. (See Will.) Mary Cloud died in 1856.." From the above it is clear that this is Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1777 married to Mary Polly Chadwell. Note the persons listed in his will. There are of course lots of questions regarding Benjamin and Susanna Bondurant. Note that Sussana listed at age 60 in the 1850 Census of Claiborne County, TN with children that must have been born when she was age 30 plus: See the 1850 Census of Claiborne County, TN Family No.23 as follows: "Susan age 60, f, b. TN; Leander age 27, m, b. TN; Greenville age 26, m, b. TN; Nancy age 20, b. TN; Louiza age 15, f, b. TN." All were born after the known children born to Benjamin and Mary Polly. Benjamin born b. 1777 died in 1845 and is not listed in the TN 1850 census. The first child listed would have been born about 1823 about three years before it is said he purchased land in Lee County, VA and moved there. While I have read the information about Sussana Bonderant. If you have more information, I would like to see it. At any rate, if Benjamin was married to Sussana it seems to me that she must have been a second spouse. Ron Wilson

Harry, Benjamin F. Cloud b. 1777 (son of Capt. William Cloud) first married Mary (Polly) Chadwell. Mary (Polly) was a widow of about one year when they married. See "Early Settlers of Lee County, VA" Benjamin lived in Lee County, VA. prior to living in Claiborne County, TN. I made copies of the property plat they owned in Lee Co., VA. It is one of the earliest plats in the Jonesville, Lee County, court house. I believe you will find that Benjamin Cloud also sat on the commission that hired Daniel Boone and associates to cut the road through the Cumberland Gap. Mary Chadwell's father David Chadwell owned most of that area when Rose Hill, Lee County, VA was called "Martin's Station". Later, David Chadwell moved to Clairborne County,TN and lived there in his later years but some of his children remained in the Rose Hill area inheriting some of his land. After the death of Mary "Polly" Chadwell, it seems that Benjamin F. Cloud b. 1777 also moved to Claiborne, TN. His son Benjamin Cloud b. 1802 was the county clerk there in Claiborne. When you study the records in Claiborne Co. it seems that Benjamin Cloud b. 1777 remarried to Sussana Bondurant and had several more children. Benjamin Cloud's [b. 1777] brother George W. Cloud b. 1810 married the daughter of David Chadwell Jr. the brother of Mary Polly Chadwell i.e. Elizabeth Chadwell and stayed in the Rose Hill or Martin's Station area. They probably lived on land that was inherited from David Chadwell Sr. who was a Captain in the Revolutionary War and it is said owned some 27,000 acres in that area. I base the above on excerpts of the book "Early Settlers of Lee County, VA" and the rightings of David Chadwell's youngest son born very late in life named Jackson Chadwell. That in itself is very interesting reading. David Chadwell Sr. lived to age 100 but late in life lived with a much younger woman and had a son by her named Jackson Chadwell. The older children by his first marriage were upset by this action and he decided to give them all land before his death and after that ignored their feelings about his young mistress. Note long before David Chadwell Sr. died he made his own casket. Jackson tells how he would lay in the newly made casket and read the Bible. ? :) He was known to have lots of money and after he died people would come to where he lived and dig around hoping to find where he put the money. However, there doesn't seem to be any record of anyone finding any buried treasure. A study of the Cloud family in Lee County, VA shows that most are descendents of David Chadwell Sr. more than one way. Like other early rural families the married cousins. By the way there was another Benjamin F. Cloud, a doctor, that lived in Claiborne County, TN but was born later and was a nephew. The was also another much younger Greenbury Cloud who was a sheriff in Claiborne County, VA. When I was last in Claiborne County, TN there were still members of the Cloud family living west of town. Benjamin and Greenbury were very popular names in the Cloud family. As I see it the only way to get a handle on who is who is to do as I did. Put together a spread sheet and trace the branches down by birth dates and other information including the census dates from 1850 onward. Ron Wilson

Her name was Octavia born April 11th 1917 and died February 25th 2000. She had, I think 2 brothers, Tilman and Harrison, and 6 sisters. I only knew Matilda, Ida, and Doxie. My mother was Octavia Cloud Emmett. She died February 25th, 2000 in New Albany, Indiana, and my dad, Ulis Emmett, died in August of 1953 in New Albany, Indiana. I remember Matilda, Doxie, and Ida, mother's sisters, and I have met them. I was told that Alberta died before I was born and that was in 1944. I remember mother talking about her. The dates of birth is the first clue plus the pension file of Benjamin b. 1826 filed by Nancy. A careful review of the Rose Hill, Lee County, Virgina for each 10 year period will demonstrate that Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. Jun 1834 is the son of George W. Cloud b. 1810. Further, from the census Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1826 seems to be the son of Greenbury Cloud b. 1785 Henry Co. VA and Barthena Cox b. 1800 VA. Greenbury Cloud b. 1785 was the brother of Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1777 mentioned above and both were sons of Captain William Cloud b. 17 Dec 1750 NC and Elizabeth Morgan second wife of William. Complicating the matter further is the fact that Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1777 had a son by the same name i.e. Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1802 married to Elizabeth Mahulda Shultz. I believe a close study of the various related persons named Benjamin Franklin Cloud in the census data for each year will convince you that Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. 1826 married to Nancy Middleton is the son of Greenbury Cloud b. 1795 and Barthena Cox simply because all others are accounted for and the family of Greenbury fits the data in the 1840 Census and the others do not. Margaret and I spent quite a lot of time in the Court House in Jonesboro, Lee County, VA; Harlan County, KY court house; and the court house in Clayborne TN. We made copies of the documents including the marriage licens of Benjamin Franklin Cloud and Nancy Middleton. Further, we have old family pictures of Benjamin Franklin Cloud b. Jun 1834; Margaret Ayers; and their son William Steven Cloud, my wife Margaret's grandfather. We visited the Leftwich-Edds Cemetary where her grandfather and her baby brothers are buried and discussed this with living relatives. We also spent time in the local libraries is each area and made copies of the land records in these areas. Margaret and her brother and sisters were born there in Rose Hill and they have various living family members still living there. My first visit there with Margaret was about 1961 when several of the older people were still living.

Both of these Joseph's had a lot of children. It appear that they have interchanged for each other at time. I do not have the one married to Jane with any parents.
