    3. Ken Cloud asked >> Was Joseph ever called "Pioneer"<< That is correct -- the Early Settlers clippings by P. G. Fulkerson says, "The Pioneer Cloud of Cloud's Ferry came from Va to Cloud's Ferry on Clinch River, which is five miles east of Howard's Quarter, at a very early day. He married Jane Carpenter of Va. His children were: Betsy, who married John Devault; Malinda, married James Mitchell; Polly, married Joseph Mills; Henry, removed to Mo.; Greenbury, removed to Mo.; Calvin, removed to Mo.; Burl; Benjamin." Continuing research has proven that "Pioneer" Cloud was, indeed, Joseph. Joseph died between11 Aug & 11 Nov in 1823. The only thing in the above article which I suspect is incorrect is where he says Jane CARPENTER came from VA -- it is my belief she came with the group from Wilkes Co NC. Ken mentioned that Malinda was b 1814 which is not correct. Her tombstone gives her birth as 1806. She d in 1896 at Clever, Christian Co MO, and is bur in Wise Hill Cem, Christian Co MO. 2. Imogene.... I checked the 1860 census and came up with the following: 1860 Boonville, Cooper Cty, MO, taken 26 Jun, p. 498 Joseph Cloud, age 24, b: TN Polly A. Cloud, age 18, b: TN Angelina Cloud, age 1, b: TN Your 1870 census was as follows: District 7, Hancock, Tennessee, taken 15 Jul, p. 47 Polly Ann Cloud, age 27, b: TN Sarah, female, age 11, b: TN Orlena, female, age 8, b: MO Joseph, male, age 4, b: MO Lauriel (?), male, age 1, b: TN Might be that the Sarah in the 1870 census is also the Angelina in the 1860 census. Sarah Angelina (or Angelina Sarah) was born in TN; then they moved to MO where they had Orlena and Joseph (named after his father??), and then moved back to TN where they had Lauriel in about 1869. Does not seem that Orlena has been that common a name. So maybe the Orlena could have been Polly Ann's daughter??? Lura

    3. Mention was recently made on the list regarding Burrell CLOUD who was s/o Joseph CLOUD & Jane CARPENTER. Burrell's wife (believed to be his second wife) was Mary "Polly" McCOLLOUGH. She was d/o William McCULLOUGH & Comfort SLAVENS who were married 22 Nov 1806 in Greene Co TN. Mary McCOLLOUGH-Cloud married 2) 7 Nov 1844 in Claiborne Co TN to Russel BREWER. I have recently received the death certificate of Burrell & Polly's son named William CLOUD and it shows they were his parents. William was b 14 Oct 1838 and d 12 Oct 1918 in Hancock Co TN from asthma and old age. The informant was Orlena WILLIAMS, relationship not shown. Living next door to the above William CLOUD in 1870 Hancock Co was an apparent widow named Polly Ann CLOUD, aged 27, and four young children, the oldest 11 years, the youngest 1 year. The oldest and youngest children were born TN -- the two in the middle were b MO. My current question is to ask if anyone knows who Polly Ann was married to? Did Burrell have another son who moved to Missouri with other family members that hasn't been identified? Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO Imogene.Bennett@att.net

    2. Monica...okay, so I did one more search on 1920 census and appear to have found him also. 1920 census, Tulsa, Tulsa County, OK, p. 1A J.C. Cloud, age 46 or 48 or 43, born MO, parents born MO, works in boarding house Donald, son, age 12, born OK, parents born MO Rick, son, age 7, born OK, parents born MO So, I took another, closer , look at the 1910 census....The interpreter has him at age 53...it is very possible that it was 33..maybe top hook of first 3 did not show up so that it really does look like 53. But, 1920 census is pretty obvious that the first number in his age is a 4...the second number was intrepreted as a 6..but could possibly be an 8 or even a 3. The two numbers are very close together.

    3. Ken -- the article that best addresses the inquiry is in vol. XXIII, no 1 (2000-2001), pp. 10-13, entitled "The Mystery of Isaac Cloud, Colonial Virginia (Follow-up)." I don't think your CD goes up to that issue. I don't know whether Jan keeps any back issues for sale, but I believe that a number of libraries (i.e., with good genealogical divisions) throughout the country subscribe to the CFJ. 3. Ken -- I have an Orville Brady Cloud, b. Sept 1829, son of Wm. Morgan Cloud. The Orville Laura is inquiring about might be a descendant. The Wm.
