    1. A Jeremiah Cloud question
    2. Ken Cloud
    3. Recently I have been working a couple of Cloud lines, both going back to them being the son of John Cloud, b 1739 NC, d 1840 LA and his wife Elizabeth Lacy. In my data I have one line that goes back to (1)Jeremiah b 1789 KY and wife Lucinda. This Jeremiah is listed as the son of John and Elizabeth. Also in my data I have a line that goes back to (2)Jeremiah b 1784 GA and his wife Elizabeth. Jeremiah is as far back as this line goes. The folks that have sent me data concerning their lines indicate that their line with (2) Jeremiah shows him to be the son of John and Elizabeth. Try as I may I cannot seem to make the (2) Jeremiah line connect with John and Elizabeth Lacy Cloud. I have the data for both line here on the web site. If anyone can add details needed to figure this out I would very much appreciate your input. To both line go to www.cloudweb.org and click on the Jeremiah Question link. I hope we can find our way thru this. Ken Cloud

    1. Aaron Cloud of Georgia, then Florida
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cloud Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YNJ.2ACIB/846 Message Board Post: Does anyone have any connections to Aaron Cloud of Griffin, Georgia or Spaulding County, Georgia? I find him on the 1860 Spalding Co., Georgia census. At that time, he had just purchased a large amount of land in central Florida and moved there, almost immediately after the 1860 census was taken. On the 1860 GA census, he is found with his wife, Jane E. (who is 28 yrs. old) and a daughter, Annie Eliza, who is 6 years old. They are all found on the Orange County, (now Sanford, in Seminole County), Florida census for 1870 and 1880. In 1880, Aaron Cloud is listed as being 79 yrs. old, (born circa 1801 in GA) & his wife, Jane E. is now giving her age as 60 years old. By the 1885 Florida State census, he apparently has passed away. (Besides being listed on the 1860 Georgia Census and also the Georgia (Spalding Co.) Slave schedule, he is also listed on the 1860 Orange Co., Florida, Slave schedule as: Aaron Cloud of Griffin, GA). I've been trying to track any descendants of his. His daughter, Anna/Annie Cloud married twice and continued to live in Sanford, Florida till at least the 1930's. Does anyone have any information on Aaron Cloud (from the 1860 Georgia Census) and his wife, Jane E. Cloud? Thank you, Christine

    3. Harry I know that does sound funny, but the way I understand it is that to list descendants of William means only direct descendants, while related descendants include the parents and other connected to the family, but not direct descendants. Does that make sense? 3. Ken -- I'm confused. You say "this listing contains all related descendants of William Cloud...", and it looks like your're referring to the new one. 2. Ken Cloud
    3. I have just uploaded to my site a completely different listing of Clouds and collateral lines. Prior to this I had always limited the data at this site to descendants of William Cloud the Immigrant. This listing contains all related descendants of William Cloud. This method more than doubled the amount of information previously listed. I will remove this data on 1 Jan 2005 and then revert to the previous listing of only descendants of William Cloud. This list is a bit more involved when following a line, but I think there is a need to present the infomation so have set it up this way in hopes that it may help someone find that long lost relative. I would like to point out that even up into the 1900's it was not "cool" to be indian, and many went to great lengths to hide their native heritage and many were listed as white on the census. I've been told that in some places it was illegal! For instance, I have a gg grandmother who was at least 1/2 Cherokee and lived in Ohio. If it had been known she would have been arrested and taken to Indian Territory.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YNJ.2ACIB/267.415.422.4 Message Board Post: Your message states that your grandmother was an Indian. Upon further review... your grandmother Myrtle Viola Tapp Wellborn, daughter of William Cicero Tapp and granddaughter of Eber Smith Tapp and Sarah Elvira Rippy Tapp Morris, was part Native American and could probably easily pass for a Caucasian. Eber Smith Tapp was probably 4 or 5 generations removed from or over a period of 4 or 5 generations of intermarrying between Native Americans and Caucasians, Eber Smith Tapp's features made it to where he could easily pass for a Caucasian. As his Tapp line descended out of Virginia, Eber Smith Tapp was only a small portion Native American most likely, but not confirmed, from the tribe of the Wicocomico Indians. Now, Myrtle Tapp's grandmother who was Sarah Elvira Rippy Tapp [Morris] was probably at least half, more likely, to full blooded Native American based on photographic evidence (which also exists for Eber Smith Tapp) most likely of Cherokee Indian descent as Sarah Elvira Rippy was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina in 1836 which was the most westerly county in North Carolina with the rest of North Carolina being "Indian Territory" which was located not too many miles from the Qualla Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. The heart of the Cherokee Nation was not located too far away either. Assuming that Myrtle Tapp's grandfather, Eber Smith Tapp was 1/8 Native American and that Myrtle Tapp's grandmother, Sarah Elvira Rippy Tapp [Morris] was 1/2 Native American, then this would make William Cicero Tapp, father of Myrtle Tapp, probably at most 5/8ths Native American. As Myrtle Tapp was born in Texas, due to the year of her birth in 1886, then Myrtle Tapp's mother who is unknown to me was most likely a Caucasian which would make Myrtle Tapp probably at most.5/16ths Native American and very easily capable to pass as Caucasian as a poor quality photograph of her seems to prove. So, yes, Myrtle Tapp was Indian, but only part Indian capable of passing for a Caucasian. Her Native American ancestry probably was in the 1/4th to 1/3rd range of Native American ancestry and capable of passing for a Caucasian. Myrtle Tapp was nothing near a full blooded Native American, just part Native American while seemingly Caucasian looking. Mike michael8689@sbcglobal.net

    3. Ken -- I thought it was generally accepted that this Joseph was a son of Capt. William Cloud of the Peter's Creek family by his second wife Eliz. Morgan. I believe Fulkerson makes that point. 3. Lura, thank you for the census for Joseph CLOUD, s/o Burrell CLOUD & Polly McCOLLOUGH. I am on the digest mode of this list, so receive messages a little late. Ronnie Smith straightened me out about Polly Ann being the widow of Joseph CLOUD, s/o Burrell & Polly. I had suspected there must have been another son of Burrell. Ronnie has confirmed that and is definitely the one you found in Cooper Co MO. Ronnie also confirmed that Orlena, the informant on the death certificate was a half sister of William, nee Orlena BREWER. Incidentally, Orlena is a very common name in this group of CLOUDs & CARPENTERs. Thanks again for the census. I appreciate it. Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO Imogene.Bennett@att.net
