If this William Cloud had large land holdings, including land in at least two states, how was it disposed of after his death without probate proceedings? Is the Cloud who named two sons the same? (maybe I've got my facts wrong). I recall reading about a Cloud who had children into his nineties, but I thought he was in Louisiana. His lest wife wrote a letter explaining how her son was wrong about (something) because he didn't know about his younger siblings. Isaac and Jerymiah Cloud were in Subdivision 26, Bradley, Tennessee, in 1850 - with young sons named Jerymiah and William - maybe there was a brother William who had died? Will check earlier censuses - Carol
There are a couple of research articles inthe CFJ, written by Harry Hogan. His work appears to be well researched. Harry, Thank you for this information. My interest comes from what appears to be a major clue for our branch. "Our" Jeremiah Cloud (1784 GA - 8161 TX) named his eldest son William. In fact, the eldest sons for four generations were named William. We have been hunting in Georgia and South Carolina for years. A descendant of Jeremiah's slaves wrote me that his ancestors came to Jeremiah after the death of William Cloud in Tennessee in 1841. Jeremiah had been in Texas for 3 or 4 years by that time. I would really like to know where the information on that William Cloud came from. So far as I know, no one in our branch has investigated the Tennessee Cloud families of this period and I don't think they have investigated the William name clue either. So I am looking for anything on Tennessee Cloud families in the first half of the 19th century and especially for a William Cloud who had probably lived in Georgia and South Carolina before going to Tennessee. If the information I've received is correct, he died in 1841. thanks again, Tom Cloud At 02:18 PM 2/14/2005, Harry Hogan <hogahl@starpower.net> wrote: >Tom -- William Cloud, Rev. I have been told that my one of my ancestral grandmother's was the daughter of an Indian Chief. My father and I have narrowed our research to 3 surnames. One of them is our Shipp line. My G-G Grandmother was Mary C. Shipp Snell. At this time time I have nothing on a Robert Shipp. I have been working on trying to transcribe Shipp information from the Will books from Howard County. If we know possibly who Robert's father was maybe we could narrow our search. Britt
