The basic kit is $99 -- I justified the cost to myself by considering how much I spend on various expenses -- especially travel, gasoline, copies, etc. If this saves me from following one wrong lead then I've saved money. A page I put up a few years ago that still has interesting and relevant information is at http://mykindred.com/dna/ This page is not specific to any particular surname project, but it has links to information for those wanting to know more about the use of dna in genealogical research. sincerely, Tom Cloud

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YNJ.2ACIB/870.1 Message Board Post: Debra, I can relate to your frustration -- but people don't normally answer when they don't have anything to say (I am being the exception right now, since I don't know anything about your Nathaniel). Keep in mind that there are numerous places to look. And, as far as not getting replies, I've read several provocative articles on how to word the subject line and the first part of the query to attract attention (can't remember where I saw them, but check at rootsweb or Cyndi's List). I particularly like "Guides to tracing family trees" at: - http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/ May I suggest to you that you find one or more male Cloud descendants of Nathaniel to join the Cloud Family Association dna project? DNA research will supplement your paper trail and can offer valuable clues on where and where NOT to look. You can find information on the Cloud dna project at: - http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/ Also, are you a member of the Cloud surname email forum? You can join it by sending an email, with the word "subscribe" in either the subject and/or the body of the message to - cloud-L-request@rootsweb.com The people on the list are very helpful. sincerely, Tom Cloud board administrator

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YNJ.2ACIB/870 Message Board Post: About once a year I do a search through the list. What I've discovered is that only once or twice did I receive an answer, and that from Joni who is having her own problems researching the Clouds who stayed in the PA/DE area. Another time someone responded that the Cloud family had been quite throughly researched........... only they obviously didn't know what they were talking about or Joni and I wouldn't have so much trouble finding our Clouds. And yes, Ken Cloud's website has a lot of information, but stops at George W. Cloud, which is where I believe my line goes. George was the brother of Stephen Wesley Cloud. So, once again............ I am still trying to find information on John H. (probably Huddleston) Cloud, born March 1855, either in New Castle Co. DE or Delaware Co. PA. He married Anna Elizabeth Chandler about 1884, daughter of Amor Harlan Chandler and Rebecca Matilda Perkins. John's father was probably Nathaniel, son of George W. Cloud of Bethel Township, Delaware Co. PA, mother Elizabeth, last name unknown. John and Anna had the following children: A. Harlan Cloud b. 25 Nov 1885 J. Davis Cloud b. 18 Nov 1886 E. Nathaniel Cloud b. 6 Aug 1888 William H. Cloud b.13 Sept 1889 Hannah E. Cloud b. 11 Dec 1890 Mae Cloud b. Unknown. James Leonard Cloud b. 2 Dec 1894 (my grandfather-married Alice Marie Magnier in PA) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. change of email address ?
    2. Tom Cloud
    3. I'm "kind-of" changing my email address. My formal address as list administrator has been changed to my road runner address tcloud@austin.rr.com The cloud@peaches.ph.utexas.edu stilll works, but I can see the handwriting on the wall for it, so an orderly transition to one of my other accounts seems wise. All of my accounts still work (with the exception of my Yahoo accounts). Please change your address book(s) to use one of them. The road runner account seems the best candidate (though I dread the spam this will bring to it). thanks, Tom Cloud List Administrator
