Let me tell you, it's VERY difficult if your ancestor was born & died before the US government started keeping a record of them (late 1800's). There are several places where the Cherokee were listed. You can go to the website http://www.rootsweb.com/~cherokee/index.html and find a lot of information there. The various enrollment rolls, like the Guion-Miller Roll, and the Dawes Roll are a good place to research, plus the book Cherokee By Blood lists names of proven Cherokee. You can look up names on these rolls in the searchable online database found in the National Archives and Records Administration website at http://www.archives.gov/research_room/arc/index.html. Just remember, there was a time when being Native American was not cool. They didn't want to be known as Native Americans. Some states even allowed them to be called White for the census if they married a white person. Some census takers also listed them as Mulatto, even when they were pure Native American. As for Wolfe County Cherokee, if you have a connection to Mary Ross, who married Valentine (Volentine) Brown, you have Cherokee blood. Mary Ross was a sister of Cherokee Chief John Ross. They were 1/8th Cherokee. Chester Rose, a native Wolfe Countian, has been accepted into the The Cherokee Nation, Tahlequah OK based on his descendancy to Mary Ross via her son James N. Brown (1811-1923) who married Mary J. Rose (1837-1920). LOTS of their descendants lived in Wolfe County. I have a Jean Spencer who married Vernon Rose in my database. Vernon Rose was a descendant of Mary Ross. Also, if you have a connection to Elizabeth Cloud (1812-1880) who married Newton Jett (1809-1874), you have Cherokee blood. The Jett family documented Elizabeth was pure blood Cherokee. I found where her son, Hercanus Jett, was listed in Cherokee by Blood, but his last name was misspelled. It was listed as Jeter. Many Bolling/Bowling descendants can trace their heritage back to Pocahontas. This would include some Eversoles and Gays. Happy Hunting! Re: R. P. Cloud...... R. P. Cloud was Robert Pierce Cloud also the undertaker in Marcus Hook, Pa. b: 1878 d: 1944. I believe his father was Nathan Cloud b: 1831 and his mother was Lydia Pierce. I have 4 deaths certificates of my great grandparents with his signature ( R.P. Cloud ) on them. My gg-grandmother, Flora A. Ridens, was born in Hart, Wright County, MO to Jefferson K. Ridens and Susanah/Susie Wills in 1871. She also had a older sister, Dora, born in 1870. Sometime between the 1880 and 1900 censuses, she married a Mr. Box (first name unknown) and had Fannie in 1892, Guy in 1894, and Opal in 1897. Guy's WWI draft registration card lists his birthplace as Hartville, MO. By 1902, Mr. Box died and Flora married Jefferson Cloud from Springfield, MO. They moved to Tulsa, OK with his Cloud kids (Harriet, Elmer, Della), her Box kids, and had more Cloud kids - Jessie (my g-grandmother) in 1905, Donald in 1907, Doan in 1909, and Nick in 1913. This is all shown in the 1910 census. Her name is shown as Della and her name on her death certificate from 1929 is Della Flora Cloud with her parents, Jeff and Susan Ridens, listed below. I am trying to locate Flora in the 1900 census. I've tried looking in MO under Box, any form of Box (or Cox or Fox), and have also searched using first names only for Flora and her kids. Her parents moved to the Cherokee nation area in Indian Territory prior to the 1900 census, but I cannot locate Flora's family there either. I'm also trying to find a marriage date for Flora and Mr. Box. The marriage index on the Wright County RootsWeb site came up empty. Does any of this tie to anyone's tree? Please let me know. His body was later recovered by firemen but after attempts made at resuscitation failed, the child was pronounced dead by Dr Henry Noskow of this borough. Marshall, along with Robert C..l(?), Floyd Allen and William Yost, all of Walnut Street, had been poling the raft up the creek and reaching a point under the Pennsylvania railroad tracks where the streams come through a viaduct, the feeble craft began to sink. Excited, the youngster jumped and immediately sank out of reach of his playmates' arms. Frightened, the three cried out, their calls being heard by members of the Viscose Fire Company, whose headquarters are nearby. Several members of this company ran toward the mouth of the creek at the Delaware River, and procuring a rowboat made way to where the boy had gone overboard. Raymond Walsh was the fireman who finally recovered the child's body. Dr Noskow called on the scene by patrolman Ira Frieze(?), of the Marcus Hook Police, who himself had been informed of the accident too late to save the boy, summoned the rescue squad of the Franklin Fire Company of Chester. After working for more than an hour over the inert form, the physician directed the squad members to collect their equipment, saying that life was extinct. The body was taken to the morgue of R P Cloud, deputy coroner, who stated that a post-mortem would be conducted. The parents were notified and hastened to Cloud's establishment where they identified the child. The funeral services will be held from the Eyre residence tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be at Lawn Croft Cemetery. *Quality of the Obit at the DelCo Historical Soc was only of fair quality so unable to make out the boy's name and not sure of the policeman's name.

Charity Beeson, daughter of Richard Beeson and Charity Grubb, married Mordecai Mendenhall. Richard Mendenhall, son of Mordecai Mendenhall and Charity Beeson, married Jane Thornbury. Gilbert Cope determined through correspondence with an English genealogist that Edward Beeson and Rachel Pennington were married in England, perhaps on 7 November 1682, I believe they are said to have been married in Leiscestershire, but I do not have the reference source. ---- There seems to be no proof that Rachel Penningon was closely related to the noted early Quaker, Isaac Pennington. I have noted that there were many members of the Pennington family who were members of Swarthmore Monthly Meeting. centered in Lancashire, in the late seventeenth century, but I cannot find Rachel's name among them. I do not know that Rachel (Pennington) Beeson appears in any early American Quaker records. The Edward Beeson family seems to have come to northern Delaware at an early time, perhaps as early as 1684. They settled in Brandywine Hundred. I once located the probable area where they lived, near the old Baltimore Pike northeast of Wilmington. Thirty years ago there was a small shopping mall in the locality. They probably had some connection with the Newark Friends Meeting which dates from as early as 1682, located near the present Friends burial ground in the vicinity of the Wilmington suburb of Carrcroft. According to the will of Edward Beeson, there were four surviving children from his first family: Edward, Richard, William, and Ann. The son Edward (Jr.) married Esther Hall under the care of Newark Monthly Meeting, ca. 1704 and took over his father's holdings in Brandywine Hundred. Richard Beeson, probably the second son, was born in Tenth Month 1684 and married Charity Grubb on the 4th of Tenth Month 1706, William, probably the third son, seems to have returned to England. Ann Beeson, daughter of Edward Beeson, Sr. married John Cloud, son of William Cloud. About 1703 Edward Beeson, Sr. arranged for the acquisition of one of the Nottingham Lots which had been laid out under the direction of William Penn and his agent, James Logan, in an attempt to nail down the ownership of an area of contested land on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border. Edward Beeson, Sr. moved to this new location, to a lot in West Nottingham. There is no record of the date of death of his first wife. By about 1810 he seems to have married as his second wife, Elizabeth ______., with whose background I am not acquainted. Edward and Elizabeth had two daughters, Elizabeth Beeson, born ca. 1712, who married John Everett, and Rachel Beeson, born 1712/1713, who married on the 9th of 12th Month 1730/1731 at the East Nottingham Meetinghouse, Richard Brown, son of William Brown and Ann Mercer. Rachel (Beeson) Brown was probably born a few months after the death of her father, Edward Beeson, Sr. After the death of Edward Beeson, Sr., his widow, Elizabeth, married 2nd, Joseph Rich. They had four children: John, Joseph, Martha, and Peter. I believe that the work bey David N. Grubb noted in the Quaker-Roots Archives a year or two ago is the most accurate and up-to-date work concerning the ancestry of John Grubb (1652-1708). Earlier work published in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century is filled with errors. It appears that the ancestry of Frances, wife of John Grubb, is not known as of the present. She was not the daughter of a Sir Francis Vane, as was once postulated. Frances (_____) Grubb married 2nd ,Richard Buffington, a chum of John Grubb. Frances (____) (Grubb) Buffington seems to have died in 1712. Nottingham Meeting seems to date from as early as 1702, when a number of the Brown and related families, moved to the Nottingham Lots from the vicinity of Chichester Friends Meeting in Chichester Twp., now Delaware County, PA. Chichester Meeting and Concord Meeting both belonged to the same Chichester-Concord Monthly Meeting. While there is some mention of Nottingham Friends in the records of New Garden Monthly Meeting after 1718, I fear that there are few Quaker records of Nottingham before this time. ----- Herbert Standing.

I took interest in the name of Thomas Harper because this name is listed with William COPE in 1697 Chester CO PA court record . I have dozens of notes on the name of Harper found in PA, MD and VA. First to England from notes' sent to me about the Oliver Cope family. Avebury, CO. Wilts , England -date 2 Jan 1681- Elizabeth COPE widow of John Cope buried 4 Oct 1649 - it seems to be in relation to the Will of John Cope father of Oliver Cope . Mr. Francis Saintbarbe- notary public- witnessed the mark of Elizabeth Cope along with John HARPER and John Traylowe - also have 8/9 Sept 1681 Oliver Cope bond money to Noah CROOKE - Taylor of Avebury, exr. of will for John Cope - there is a 32 year gap here. Note: as you can see here it appears that someone has made a guess for the maiden name of Rebecca Cope wife of Oliver as being Crooke and it appears the Oliver Cope listed as a Taylor may have learned the trade form Noah Crooke. my guess is that Rebecca Cope may be a Prew and Gilbert Cope once listed that Oliver Cope may have had a wife named Mary first which would explain the 19 year birth gap between William Cope and brother John Cope b) 1691. In 1697 John Cope was 6 years old and William Cope is at least 21 years old when he took Thomas Harper ta boy to court to be taught to read & write and to sevr William Cope for 5 years ( Thomas Harper could be 16 years old in 1697 to be released when 21 ). Cecil CO MD - Thomas Harper and wife Elizabeth - this is only my rough draft on this family and boy this this family have connections to people I have re cords on in DE and MD. Thomas & Elizabeth - hints show she may be related to Ephriam Augustine Herman and this guy is a big time land owner in New Castle CO DE and Cecil CO MD. Col. Ephriam Augustine Herman , has a wife Isabella to Thomas Harper & wife Elizabeth of Bohemia Manor 170 acres , Bohemia Mill & Indian Branch , lease term , Natural life of Thomas & Elizbeth Harper. 29 Mar 1715/16- wit: Abell V. Peirce from a lookup in HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY by Futhey & Cope; PEIRCE, George (or Pearce, as the name appears to have been written by him), of the parish of Winscom, in the county of Somerset (England), and Ann Gainer, of Thornbury, in the county of Gloucester, were married the 1stday of 12th month, commonly called February, 1679. George, with his wife and three young children, emigrated from Bristol, the seaport nearest his residence, in 1684, and the same year had a tract of 490 acres of land surveyed to him in what is now Thornbury township. Thornbury being the name of a district of country from which he obtained his wife, and a desire on his part to keep up the old associations most dear to him, probably suggested the name of the township. He arrived at Philadelphia prior to 9th month 4, 1684, upon which day he presented two certificates to a meeting of Friends held "att the Governor's house." One of these certificates from "the Monthly Meeting at ffrenshay, in the County of Gloucester." The other was from "Thornbury Meeting." ! He may have settled on his new purchase in 1685, but his name first appears as an active member of Chichester Friends' Meeting in 1686; shortly after which meetings were sometimes held at his house. Besides being strict in his attention to his religious duties, he gave a share of his time to civil affairs, and of his means to the improvement of the country. He represented Chester County in the Provincial Assemble in 1706, and was one of a company who erected "the Concord mill," the first mill erected in his neighborhood. He studied medicine with his brother-in-law, Dr. James Gibbons of West Chester, attended a course of lectures in the University of Pennsylvania, and without graduating commenced the practice of physic in West Chester as the successor of Dr. Gibbons, whose residence he purchased in March, 1805. Dr. Pierce was soon disabled from practice by pulmonary consumption. He died June 18, 1808. He was never married. He was a man of great energy of character and the most stoical fortitude.
