    1. grave photos of family of William Augustine Cloud

    3. Last Sunday I was out visiting my brother's grave to pull weeds and tend the flowers when my wife suggested we drive over to the section where the old graves are. I had no idea there were any other Clouds buried there, but I managed to park right next to Elizabeth Grace Kennedy Cloud's crypt and there found several Cloud graves. I would have taken pictures of the other family members' graves but I didn't know their surnames. Visit here to see the gravesites of the family of William Augustine Cloud (1810-1870) in the Bagdad Cemetery in Williamson county, Texas. (Yes, it is spelled "Bagdad".) http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/headstones/Bagdad/ ... clicking on any of the pictures gives a larger one. There are at least two descendants of this family on this list -- Margaret Lindly and Bill Riddle (Cloud). Margaret is concerned that the body of Elizabeth has been stolen from the crypt http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/headstones/Bagdad/images800/DSC00709.jpg for it is broken and there are only two stones inside. Does anyone know how to deal with something like this? I suppose calling the police, but I can't say with any certainty that her body was buried above ground -- the space inside the "crypt" is very narrow. It looks to me like the vault or crypt is sitting on top of the grave ?? Tom Cloud

Even more important to me -- less typing, less chance of making typos ... though merging data is still onerous. ... but, data in text format is better than not having it. The mykindred site has a way for people to enter and edit data in real-time. I disabled that as it looked to me like a big mess waiting to happen -- how to be sure no mischief or mistrakes would corrupt the data. Also, how to keep the data and periodically merge duplicate entries (finding and merging duplicates is a great source of new clues -- you find links you didn't know existed!). Suggestions solicited, but it seems to me to be less likely to get messed up if the data is entered through one "portal" (me right now) rather than having numerous people making changes ... ???

Before we could stop her, she gave me 4 grandchildren! In fact, she is the reason I inadvertently sent the first email about the list history before it was ready. I was emailing her Willie Nelson's rendition of "I'm my own grandpa" ... Redneck Family Tree Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter Who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son. My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandma too. If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild. For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa. Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your kids!

    3. Barbara, et al I wasn't fishing for kudos, but thanks anyway! I wrote those two emails about our history for two reasons: 1 - I thought it ought to be said -- Carol Head and Cecil Stokes were the prime movers in this. 2 - I also want to see the list (and our web presence) be more active. It seems we've fallen into a malaise. Obviously Carol, Cecil and I, just like everybody else, appreciate being appreciated <grin> but please don't misread this to be anything other than a record of our history which, so far as I know, has never been mentioned before. thanks, Tom At 09:09 AM 5/4/2005, Barbara Clark wrote: >Wow Tom that is amazing. 3. ... oops -- I wasn't finished, it's my daughter's fault! WRT the Cloud web presence (history): Cecil Stokes - set up the first CFA page - hsv.tis.net/~cstokes/CFA/ - set up the first Cloud genealogy pages at genweb.net/~cloud/ - set up the current site at homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/ All the "free" sites were drying up (genweb.net croaked) or becoming commercial to pay the bills (ancestry bought rootsweb), and many of us were getting worried. Wanting to get away from the commercialization of rootsweb and the compromising of data posted there (hopefully only a brief indiscretion) and at other commercial sites (esp. FTM/FTW) several of us investigated creating our own site. From that was born the mykindred.com site -- set up to be both a mirror of the homepages.rootsweb site and a place where multiple families (collateral lines) could share their information. ... all that said -- trying to maintain the sites is time-consuming and we're not professionals in this area. You can help by submitting new data, corrections and suggestions to either Cecil or to me. thanks, Tom Cloud List Administrator

Jewel was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Schleicher County on the family ranch to Mattie Cloud Roach and Ambrose Roach, an Irish immigrant. She attended a country school, Roach School, walking three miles to class each day for seven years. After attending high school in Mertzon for a year, she graduated from Eldorado High School in 1926. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simmons College in Abilene (now Hardin Simmons University) in 1929, and in that same year married her high school sweetheart, T.J. "Jator" Bailey. T.J. and Jewel lived in Abilene until 1944 when they moved to Ozona. In 1945 Jewel was asked to teach Junior High English temporarily. Twenty-seven years later, she retired from the "temporary" position, having taught fourth graders for 25 of those years. Efforts on behalf of the children were not limited to the classroom. The trees in front of the primary school are there today because of her and her lifelong teacher friend, Lucille Littleton. The two sold popcorn and tamales to raise the money for the purchase and planting of the trees. Another project those two initiated was a carnival to raise money for sidewalks on the school grounds. Jewel's true interests in life, other than her family, were her church, federated women's clubs and travel. A lifetime member of the Baptist Church (in Eldorado, Abilene and Ozona), she served as both a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a member of the Texas Federated Women's Clubs for 70 years, serving as past president of the Heart of Texas District, as the State's "In Memoriam" chairman, and was a member of the state board of trustees for over 25 years. Locally, she was a member of the Eldorado Woman's Club and the Ozona Woman's Forum, serving as president twice. Jewel was a wonderful public speaker and master storyteller who entertained audiences at the Covered Wagon Dinner Theater in Sonora and at the Schleicher County Centennial. She gave inspirational and motivational talks at clubs and numerous church dedications throughout Texas. She and T.J. had a passion for travel. They toured the United States from one coast to the other, visited relatives in Ireland many times, and toured Europe, the Far East, Mexico and Canada. She also took cruises with her children, which Jewel enjoyed until she could no longer travel. Her last cruise was in December, 2002. Jewel and T.J. also had a passion for contract bridge. She was a member of bridge clubs in Ozona and Eldorado for over 50 years. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband and best friend for 56 years, "Jator"; and two brothers, A.J. and Eldred Roach. She is survived by a son, Joe Bailey of San Angelo; a daughter, Martha Bailey Henderson of Eldorado; one brother, Jim Roach of Eldorado; three grandchildren: Kevin Bailey, Houston; John L. Henderson III and wife Jeannine, Ozona; Virginia Howell and husband John, El Paso; and six great-grandchildren: Drew, Ross, Stuart and Will Howell; and Jenna and Julia Henderson. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Jewel also leaves a special lifelong friend, Lucille Littleton of Ozona. Funeral service was Monday, June 9, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Ozona followed by interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona. Arrangements were by Preddy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were: Lee Roy Swope, Gerald Galbraith, John Howell, Robert Johnson, Drew Howell, Ross Howell, Stuart Howell and Will Howell. Honorary pallbearers were: Jerry Perry, Rev. Forney Tribune, Tuesday Morning, July 9, 1889, Page 2 Died, at Longview, Texas, June 27, 1889 after an illness of twenty days, of typoid fever, Davis Beaureguard Cloud. Aged twenty seven. The subject of this sketch was born at Dallas, Webster, Co., Mo. and came to Texas with this father's family when a child. In his early youth he was converted, and united with the M.E. Church, of which he remained a member until his death. He was also a member of the M.E. sabbath school, which he attended regularly when at home. When but nineteen he was married to Miss Lula Rogers of Collin County, Texas. It was a matter of deep regret to those who attended his last moments, that he never spoke of dying. Being irrational the greater part of the time, and when conscious the physicians in attendance, forbid the mention of any subject of exciting nature. He was an affectionate husband, a devoted father and loving brother. His was a warm and genial nature, and he had hosts of friends. He had been employedby the T.P. Rail Road Co. as conductor, for! several years before his death. He leaves a wife and two small children, three brothers, three sisters and an aged father; whose hearts are aching sadly for the life cut down in the prime of manhood. How much his bright and cheering presence, which has so often gladdened our home, shall be missed, no one can tell; but those who have tasted of marahs bitter waters, and seen the dear face of a loved one, shut in from mortal sight, by the cruel coffin lid. There is a rent in the family circle, a link gone from out our lives. The kindly, sympathetic, voice we shall hear on earth no more. The warm passionate heart has stilled its tumultuous throbbing forever. But we trust his immortal spirit has found peace and rest, in the fadeless fields of heaven.

They emigrated to Pennsylvania, but I have done no research on them. My direct line of descent is from Joseph D. James, (who is very probably no relation to Susan James, above), b. 1807 in Ohio, married in Maryland, died in Nebraska. From Nebraska the ensuing lines went to Missouri, then Colorado, then California. Most of the little bit of James research I have done focuses on the female descendants, including my great grandmother Margaret Almira James, b. 1881 in Nodaway Co, Missouri, granddaughter of the Joseph D. James mentioned above. I also have a Thomas James who married a Mary Goodwin, b. about 1694, married in 1712. I have no other info on this James, do not know if they had any children. I believe at least some of the Goodwins came from Wales and settled around Goshen, so possibly Thomas James was also from Wales. I offer this info, sketchy as it is, in case you have any connections that might mesh. I realize that DNA projects rely on the male Y chromosome, so I am not much help.
