    2. Sorry, I was away so could not answer your Questions. Ric Gordon, my cousin is correct. John Austin Cloud (1841 - 1886) was married to two sisters. Sarah Ann Yows and Eliza Belle Yows. They were the daughters of James Yows ll and Elizabeth Miller. Elizabeth Miller was one of my great , great aunts. Sarah's children are: James William Cloud 10 Dec. 1865 - 21 Dec. 1924 Mary Elizabeth Cloud 18 Jan. 1868 - 3 Nov. 1909 Joseph Evander Cloud 25 September 1869 - 13 Sept. 1943 Sarah Alice Cloud 24 August 1871 - died early 1890's George Washington Cloud 1 Feb. 1874 - 19 Aug. 1895 Eliza Belle Cloud 2 Dec. 1875 - 28 Dec. 1875 (Male ) Cloud 11 Sept. 1878 - 13 Sept. 1878 John Oliver Cloud 30 May 1880 - 26 June 1880 Sarah died from complications of childbirth Eliza Belle's children: Grace Leona Cloud 10 July 1882 - ? 1. Re: [CLOUD] grave photos of family of William Augustine Cloud
    2. Hi Cousins, I have seen several graves like the ones in question. I think it was a style in southern graves during the 1800's. We have several (all on one plot) in our family cemetery in Henry County, Georgia. It is called the Elliott family cemetery, but the first grave made there was for our highly esteemed ancestor, Mary Cloud Elliott, born Mary Cloud, in Pennsylvania in 1773. She married George Elliott also of Pennsylvania. Around 1820 the family migrated with their adult children to the south. First settling in Gwenette county, Georgia where George is buried and later moving to Henry County in about 1823.Much of the land continues to stay in our family and we are now in the 8th generation on that land, and Mary was the first. Mary Cloud Elliott also had the two brothers nearby, Ezekiel Cloud and Jeremiah. Anyway, about two plots away from Mary Clouds grave is a plot of some kin folk that used those above ground stone boxes to mark their graves. When we were kids we figured that if we lifted the lid we would behold the skeletons of one of our ancestors. Fortunately, good sense came before we got strong enough to lift the lids. My guess is that the grave in the picture fell victim to some strong pubescent boys who were trying to scare themselves but only got pinched fingers for their trouble. Once they pulled that foot piece out they found that they were just playing with an unusual grave stone, not a crypt. I visit Mary Cloud's grave every time I go back to Georgia and my children have instructions to spread my ashes among the dust of Mary and the rest. If any of you have information about Mary's parents or ancestors, I would appreciate hearing about them. My intuition is that she descends from William Cloud who came with the Quakers in 1681 or so. 3. The only crime I think has been done there, is the fact that if someone did hit the crypt and didn't report it. Also, if we were to look into the crypt of William Augustine Cloud, we'll find that it's empty, but if radar (or whatever they use) were used, we would find that there is a body there. That road needs to be moved, or at least the grave be more protected from this happening. Ric ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Cloud To: CLOUD-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 7:41 AM Subject: Re: [CLOUD] grave photos of family of William Augustine Cloud Ric, Margaret wrote that she'd always been told they were buried above ground because they were from Louisiana. But you don't have to live here but a day or two to realize coffins aren't going to float here. Even if/when it rains, it just gets the rocks wet! And a mortician surely would tell the family above-ground burial isn't necessary (and it's not necessary in most of Louisiana either). I pretty much agree with you that it is just a decorative vault, not a burial crypt (if I'm using the terms correctly??). WRT how the damage occurred .... my first thought was a vehicle hit it, but I don't know. After looking at the photo in yesterday's paper of the new mummy uncovered in Egypt, I realized that a mortician could bury even a large person in that narrow crypt. Comfort or spaciousness probably is not a consideration. Then there's the appearance of the earth under the crypt. It didn't look disturbed to me -- which disturbed _ME_. If Elizabeth's body is buried there, I'd think the ground would have settled like it has for all the other graves -- that's why all the other markers are leaning!. When you look at the pictures, there's a little "Notes" or memo tab at the bottom. Click there for the descriptions. That is an artifact of PhotoShop CS, and I won't use it again. I don't like it! .... and, yup, tha's me an' my ol' red pickup (and my lovely child bride!). I managed to kick the bottom of Elizabeth's headstone back into place, sealing the interior, but it's obvious the top is cat-a-wonkus -- another indication to me that something hit it ... also the fact that it is right at a bend in the road/path. Then I leaned the top part of her headstone against the bottom part. There are other headstones broken in two there and I noticed someone clever had made a steel bracket for the sides of a stone to repair it. That would be difficult for Elizabeth's stone because it is wedged into the opening in the vault/crypt. http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/headstones/Bagdad/ So my question remains -- did a theft of her body occur and who do we report it to? There are two contact phone numbers as the last picture that you or Margaret could call. I am willing to go out and do some more investigation for any of the family members, but I really don't know how to proceed. I can even call the sheriff or police (if it's in the city??) out, but I'd like some evidence a crime has been committed). Margaret is concerned that the body of Elizabeth has been stolen from the crypt http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/headstones/Bagdad/images800/DSC00709.jpg for it is broken and there are only two stones inside. Does anyone know how to deal with something like this? I suppose calling the police, but I can't say with any certainty that her body was buried above ground -- the space inside the "crypt" is very narrow. It looks to me like the vault or crypt is sitting on top of the grave ?? Tom Cloud ==== CLOUD Mailing List ==== .................................................................. 3. Tom, I have that John Austin Cloud was married twice. first to Sarah Ann Yoes June 15, 1864 in Williamson Co., Texas, and then to Eliza Yoes August 16, 1881 in Williamson Co., Texas. I have nothing else on this Eliza Yoes other than her and John had at least 3 daughters. 3. All My data is rather extensive and most allof the Cloud info is presented on my web site at www.cloudweb.org . Althought I cannot vouch for any of the data on my site other than my own line I feel it represents a good starting point for many new researchers. The software I use is Ancestral Quest. This software offers a method of collaborating info with others who might be using AQ. Esentually the AQ data I have would be put on a site on the internet and others could look at it, make changes etc. No changes would be finalized until I have had a chance to review the changes. I would expect that my review would involve me checking with other Clouds concerning the changes. Just thought I would throw this out for your info. I in no way claiming to be an OFFICIAL Cloud website, just a facilitator I would hope of Cloud data. 3. Tom and Margaret, This is my line as well. Elizabeth Grace Kennedy was a Gordon descendant, and thus one of my cousins, as are her descendants. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom Cloud To: CLOUD-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, May 04, 2005 10:02 AM Subject: Re: [CLOUD] Mattie Cloud 1908-2003 Margaret ... this is your line, but I think you mis-typed.
