    1. Georgia Clouds
    2. Steve & Sharon McChrystal
    3. I have been tracking down Clouds in Americus, Sumter Co., Georgia. It seems that's where allot of Elijah Cloud's (Macon Co., GA) descendants settled. On these marriages, I assume W W Cloud is Elijah's son William who I find there in the censuses and he dies there in 1922. I don't have a clue who these other guys are. Cloud, Dock married Sims, Berta >29 Mar 1920 18 39 Cloud, J H married Bass, Nellie 12 Jul 1884 6 377 Cloud, John married Harris, Harriett 17 Apr 1885 8 347 Cloud, W W married Dupree, Alice G 3 Dec 1882 6 357 Any ideas? Thanks, Sharon McChrystal

    3. This is good information ... read on ..................... From: "sanndy kelly" <SandyKelly@worldnet.att.net> Date: October 4, 2005 11:11:52 PM EDT To: VAFLOYD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Good site A fellow in a genealogy class I take wrote the following and sent it to our classmates in an e-mail. I am sending it on to you folks because it is very useful and he wrote it well. Hope it helps some of you. Sandy the LDS Family History Library has announced that it has begun the process of digitizing and making available on the Internet all of the Family History books in their collection. These are primarily books in the "929.273 Series" that are currently housed on the first floor of the Family History Library (previously housed on the fourth floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building). At the present time (September 2005), about 5000 books have been digitized and are available, and they have announced that they are adding about 100 titles a week to the on-line collection. Copyright issues are playing a role in determining the order in which they progress through this task; books out of copyright are being done first. As these Family History books are digitized and placed on-line, an entry is being placed in the Family History Library on-line catalog with a hyperlink to the digitized image. By going to the FHL On-Line Catalog, you can search for a specific name, find a book that has been indexed using the name, and view it on-line, flipping through the pages as separate "pdf" images, much the same as if you were on the first floor of the Family History Library. Of course, the indexing that is available through the FHL Catalog is only as good as the human indexers made it; typically they only include the "top" 4 to 6 names that appear in each book in their indexing efforts. But there is even better news! The digitized images of these Family History books are actually being stored on the electronic servers at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. By going directly to the BYU web site to view the images, there are several additional possibilities that provide genealogists functionality that they have never had before. You are now able to do full-text searches on each book, and on every digitized book in the collection. Now you can locate the small two- paragraph entry on Grandpa Ebnezer McGarrah that is buried in one of the Family History books that you would have otherwise never thought to look at before. This can open up a huge new possibility for extending lines, getting past brick walls, and uncovering new relatives! How to Find The Digitized Images? Go to the web site of the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU at http://lib.byu.edu and on their home page, follow the links "Find Other Materials/Electronic/On Line Collections at BYU". Click on the "Text Collections" tab and select the "Family History Archive" from the list of collections that are displayed. You would then normally want to use the "Search All" feature with the "Search Full Text" box checked, although the "Advanced Search" will allow very high-powered searches that will allow certain phrases to be searched for and other words to be used to exclude potential hits. As you make selections from the "hits" that are displayed, you will need to use the "Click Here to View Item" button near the top of the screen to display the actual image of the page. You can page through the entire document using the index displayed on the left side of the screen. Each page may be printed after being viewed. One interesting sidelight is, when you are at the first web page for the Family History Archive (the page that lets you begin a search), click on the "Browse the Collection" button. This will display every Family History book that has been digitized and is available in the collection. You can scroll through this list much the same as if you were walking up and down the stacks at the library. At the top of the first page of the search results, it displays the number of hits, which (in this case) is the number of books in the collection. If you keep track of this number, you can get a pretty good idea of how fast they are adding titles to the collection as you revisit the web site from time to time. I think you will want to visit this site often as the collection grows!

    1. Albert Louis "Bill" Cloud (1916-1981)
    2. Tom Cloud
    3. I'm looking for any info on Albert Louis "Bill" Cloud. He was born in Alabama in 1916 and died in California in 1981. His SSN is from OK, so he must have lived there after 1936. Albert went by the nickname "Bill". He had two sisters, Athias, b. ca 1914, and Martha, b. 1918/1919, both b. AL. I know nothing of them other than the census info. His parents were William T. Cloud (1875 AL- aft 1920) of Montgomery cty, AL and Gussie W. Money. They are on the 1910 and 1920 census of Montgomery cty. His grandfather money was William Thomas "Tom" Money b. 1854 AL and Tom's wife Sarah J. He had an aunt Carrie Money who was born 1891 in AL. (Carrie and Gussie, his mother, had a brother named Reuben who died prior to the 1910 census.) Carrie was living with Bill and his family in 1920, so his grandparents Money may have died by that time. Bill is my 2nd cousin twice removed, the g-g-grandson of "my" Jeremiah Cloud (1784 GA - 1861 TX). He is the grandson of Thomas Newton Cloud (1843-1915) and Martha Pugh, who lived their lives in Bullock and Montgomery cty, AL. I would really, really like to find out if Bill had any children, and especially sons, so I can recruit them for our dna project. His line is the last male line of Thomas Newton Cloud of Alabama. His uncle James Wesley Cloud's male line died with James' son Lonnie (1922-1972), Bill's first cousin, died in San Francisco. (I will send a second email asking for information on Lonnie, for we don't know whether he ever married or not, either.) The info for Bill Cloud's family is on-line at the URL below (his sisters are shown as "Living" ... that will be corrected at the next update.) http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I15560&tree=mykindred01 thanks, Tom Cloud

Check out "The Genealogy Hall of Shame" ... http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/shame/morphcorp.htm I assume many of you received the Order form for the: - "Cloud Family Yearbook" and CD-ROM for $39.85 I strongly recommend you not waste your money -- and I also suggest you warn your kinfolks about them -- and encourage them to join CFA instead! (And, remember, they're hitting all the various surnames, so don't spare your warnings to just Clouds.) Your first clue should be the phrase ...... "The last 2000 years of Cloud history." That means they've found our ancestors back to the time of Christ!!! Go figure -- I didn't know they had surnames back then ?? 3. Living people are supposed to be masked -- their names given as "Living". I made the project members "not living", but made their given names be their kit number. Your kit number is 32731. Your record in that database is: http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/db/getperson.php?personID=I1299&tree=cloud-dna On the "Results" page, you can also click on your kit number at the bottom of the page: http://mykindred.com/cloud/dna/results/cdnareport.php There is a nice script on that link that only shows the paternal line (since that's pretty much all that's there anyway). ... 3. Harry, I have been in the courthouse in Rogersville and in the Hawkins County library, genealogy room. I have also surveyed the records in the Knox County library McClung Collection and the UT Special Collections library. I have not attempted to go through the Hawkins County Courthouse archived records. Here are some of my findings. The McClung Collection has two collections relating to NC Land Grants. One collection contains an index of grants listed by Tennessee counties and includes the microfilm copies of the grants. The other collection contains an index of NC Grants relating to Tennessee and includes microfilm copies of the grants. A particular grant may be and almost always is listed in both collections. As far as I know there hasn't been an attempt to collate and compare the two collections. One microfilm collection contains North Carolina Grant Books "A", "B" & "C". The Tennessee microfile collection contains Hawkins County Land Grants, Books "A", "B" & "C". Irene M. Griffey has transcribed what she calls "Earliest Tennessee Land Records and Earliest Tennessee Land History." Her work includes all of the NC land grants and transactions in Tennessee and covers multiple counties, i. e. Sullivan, Washington, Hawkins, Green, etc. This is a monumental work published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., Baltimore, MD (2000). Billie R. McNamara has compiled, "Hawkins County, Tennessee Grant Books 1 & 2, 1787 - 1819." John Armstrong surveyed most of the land grants in East Tennessee and his entry books are in the McClung Collection. I have seen copies of his entry books and they are very difficult to read. Irene Griffey has transcribed Armstrong's Entry Books in two volumns, self published in 1993. When you see a citation given as Hawkins County, Deed Books 1 - 8, those are the WPA typewritten copies of the original Deed Books and these copies contain many errors. Some of the typists never cleaned their type face and they were probably the single finger hunt and peck sort of typists. I have never determined the source for the Hawkins County, Tennessee Deed Books "A", "B" and "C". The cites below give an indication of my problems. In most cases, I did not see these records myself. They were collected from various sources, and I dont know how careful the researchers were about their citations. Some of them seem to be incomplete e.g., the 1791 (5 Sept) record cite specifies op. cit. [referring back to the 1790 (2 Jan) record], but the page number (35) is lower than that of the earlier record (77). So that raises the question: is the 1791 deed actually recorded in Deed Book 3 rather than 2? The same thing applies to the last two in the list the 10 June, 1793 record cite indicates op. cit. in reference to the preceding one but, again, has a lower page number, raising the question as to whether the later deed is really recorded in Book 4? Can you tell me how many deed books we are dealing with during that 1790-1801 peri! > > od? Should the 1795 transfer to Wm. Cocke have a deed book reference? > > Also, regarding the 1791 (21 Nov) record, which cites what appears to be a later compilation of several books into one that covers a 12-year period, am I right that you say that such compilations were put together by the WPA project and involved only indices? If thats the case, I cant figure how where the actual data came from. And is the exact title of the compilation as it appears in that 1791 cite or in the later one that specifies Tennessee Records of Hawkins County, Deed Book No. 1, 1788 1800.? Then there is the 1795 cite to Hawkins County Tennessee Grant Books 1 & 2, 1787 1819. ???? > > > >I hate to bother you with these questions, but Im sitting up in D. C., far away from Rogersville. I have checked the LoC and the D.A.R. collections, and they are both very limited in this area. Thanks for whatever help you can give me.
