Ken, You and I both try to provide a "niche service". Neither of us are researching other people's families, but we provide them a place to display their data .... and not all of them do it in the same way, some more careful than others. I am careful what I accept and from whom, but I can only vouch for my own line. But being able to see it all in one place, even with the warts it may have is, in my humble estimation, of great value (at least to myself and to many others I know of). I have thought that "someday" I would actually write a genealogy of my line and put it on the net. That way I could say that somewhere there actually _IS_ a genealogy online. But until that day, people need to know -- the data on the web, almost all of it, is not a "genealogy" but rather just a compilation of data -- just a big stack of electronic papers. Surely no one is going to do a genealogy with data taken from a web site! For those of us with brick walls -- we need to see all the data, because we don't know where we fit in. It helps us get ideas for where to start the real research. thanks, Tom Cloud At 08:19 PM 12/17/2005, you wrote: >Tom > > Interestingly enough, I read your words here and find that you sound a bit like I do, trying to find a place for everything and in many cases not having a clue other than what someone has provide. I dont really suppose that the CFA will ever make public the database they work from and because of that I have gone out on my own and kept the Cloudweb site going. Amen Tom, It seems people are worried that Saying, or "Promoting" Christ, will offend someone! It seems that NOONE wants to think that the ALL Out attacks on Christianity is not OFFENDING The Christians or Others in America? I guess it's OK to Offend the people that have Christian Beliefs? Boy....Talking about being Radical!! Today Secularism is the hot Religion. They say that Christians try to push their Beliefs on other people! What do you think these people, the people that are fighting to seperate everyone from religion are doing??? By not wanting the 10 commandments posted or anything with Religion in School or songs, THEY ARE PUSHING THEIR BELIEFS DOWN EVERYONE ELSES THROAT!!! Are they not doing exactly what they're trying to stop us from doing? Pushing thier beliefs down others's throat? By pushing the belief that Christianity should not be taught, or Prayer shouldn't be allowed in certain places....etc...etc... Where's the FREEDOM in that? GOD Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely; Rev. Rick F. Cloud
I think I've finally got a way for us to upload and share our documents, histories (and pictures). This is different from the myfamily site it two ways -- (1) no password or membership is required to view anything and, more importantly, (2) each item is linked to the person or persons it references in the database. From the entry page - http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/ the "Documents" link displays what is there at this point. A nice feature is that the documents link to whoever is referenced by the document -- and the document is referenced from each of those individual's pages, making research much easier. (All new items are also on the "What's New" link.) I'm not too fond of the format -- all of the individuals being listed in one column can make for a very large entry (e.g. for Kernion's genealogy), but I can't think of a better way to do it. Pictures/images are the same way -- any photo or other image (not just pictures, but also pdf files and any image file) can be referenced to any number of people and then that image will have a link placed on those individual's page as well. As most of you know, this is not "my" site, but it is the combined efforts of many of us. If you will submit documents, pictures and anything else you think useful, I will attempt to get it on the web for all the cousins. .... I can also use some help on some of this as it can be overwhelming trying to do it all alone. sincerely, Tom Cloud
I have some questions about the article by Mrs. Frank Battles apparently written for the DAR. Can someone help me with this? http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/histories/DecaturFamilies.htm The questions are in italics and in orange colored type. First question -- Mrs. Battles attributes Elisha Cloud who married Ruth Collins to be the son of Jeremiah Cloud and grandson of Jeremiah Cloud Sr, and the great grandson of William Cloud and Elizabeth Ann Hayes. ... the problem -- I've been told this man is in the line of Olive Nabors and Sharon McChrystal and CFA president Jimmy Jones. Second question -- at the bottom, she lists children of John Cloud, son of Noah and Sarah, but it looks like she has mixed up the generations of cousins, all the descendants of the aforementioned Jeremiah, son of William and Elizabeth Hayes. There are other new documents at the web site as well .. click on the links "What's New" and "Documents" to see them at http://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/ thanks, Tom Cloud
Tom, thank you for your Christmas greeting. It always warms my heart to know that others acknowledge and love the Savior. Olive Nabors
dear cousins, I apologize for this last email -- it was meant for Olive only. It is not my intention to sidetrack this list into a discussion on social mores or religion. Olive, As I watch what is going on, my heart grows weary and heavy for my children and their children. America, and the world, have gone so far off-course, I fear they will not be able to have the same freedoms we enjoyed. Everywhere I turn I see Christianity denigrated. This is a good sign in one way -- it means we are onto something that the evil in the world can't stomach. It seems almost every TV show has some dig or outright condemnation of anything Christian ... Christians are portrayed as the ones with the twisted minds and the "homophobes", the ones that mistreat their children and drive them away. sincerely, Tom Cloud At 09:24 AM 12/15/2005, you wrote: >Tom, thank you for your Christmas greeting. I hope you and yours have a Blessed Christmas Season and a joyful and prosperous new year. Let us not forget the Gift which made this season so important to our ancestors and to us, the infant given to the world to be its Hope and its Light. May God guide your path and bless your labors.
