    3. I am forwarding these posts to the list in the hope that we can all, together, help preserve these cemeteries. A contact for questions: Ted Urquhart President Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance <ted.urquhart@cox.net> .................. The hearing on abandonment of the cemetery is Tuesday, allowing for construction over it. http://www.mc-ala.org/ The Pinkston Cemetery is not a McDade burial ground, but it is on the same preservation list as the McDade-Manning Springs Cemetery. Historic burial grounds should be preserved. The people who built this country -- who put their lives on the line to do so -- deserve more respect. 1. Pinkston Cemetery - On Tuesday's Mtgy Co Commission Meeting's Agenda - Update
    2. Tom Cloud
    3. From: Ted Urquhart, President Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance Subject: RE: Pinkston Cemetery - On Tuesday's Mtgy Co Commission Meeting's Agenda - Update Walter Byers, City Attorney, returned my call yesterday and confirmed that the county has jurisdiction over the cemetery. Commissioner Reed Ingram and I just talked - and he was not optimistic for the commission ruling in our favor. He explained that the developers are contributors to the individual board members, including himself, and he believes he will be the only one to vote against declaring the cemetery abandoned. He did encourage me to be at the 8:00 meeting Tuesday and to point out the Alabama Supreme Court case ruling - he had read it prior to the meeting two weeks ago but didn't know if the others had. Can we influence the vote? We've got Reed's vote - he represents Dist 5. A bit late, but if any of you know any of the other commissioners, live in a different district or know someone who does, a call to the other commissioners encouraging them to vote against abandonment on Agenda Item 21 could help. The Montgomery County website at http://www.mc-ala.org/commission/2006/default.htm only lists their names and office phone and email and, of course, Monday's a holiday, so need to try to reach them at home. I'll be at the 8:00 meeting to present our case. For those of you who can't make it to Tuesday's meeting, wish us luck. Consider Adoption of Resolution Regarding the Declaration of Abandonment of a Cemetery Located on Chantilly Parkway I contacted the Commission's (Clerk??), Donald Mims, and he said the county and city attorneys got together and determined that the county had jurisdiction. I missed Commissioned Reed Ingram at the courthouse and have left a voice mail on his home phone to call me to see his take on the outcome. I also called Jeff Downes, the Mayor's Exec Assistant, and he was not aware of the two attorney's getting together and gave me the City Attorney, Walter Byers, name and phone number - I've left a message with his office to call me as well. I plan on being in the County Commission's 8:00 meeting Tuesday morning. Would appreciate those of you who can to attend the 9:30 formal session. Will advise if I hear anything back from these turkeys - err, gentlemen. Ted

I would like to have them, if you don't mind. My most recent research for this branch of our Cloud family has been with Joseph's grandparents, Joseph Cloud and Jane Carpenter. I have listed there all census and other information for them and their descendants (that I could find) -- and would appreciate any corrections or anything you think ought to be added. There is a "Suggestion" button where you can post things for each person, or just write me. WRT Wiley Van Buren Cloud dying in I.T. ... my Cloud line split up and my g-grandfather went to I.T. It is interesting how all of those descendants think they have Indian blood, partly because they were born and grew up on various Indian Reservations ... while the other branches, that did not migrate to I.T. have no such stories (about having Indian blood). My grand-aunt, Idumea Seybold Moore (grandma Cloud's sister), even filed for citizenship with the Cherokee Nation, going so far as to get an old chieftan to lie for her about knowing her (deceased) parents and how they were Indian, which they were not. Her application is in the rejected file! I think many of them were so poor, they were looking for any way to get by.

Liza and Nancy were sisters to Mary Jane. It's frustrating...on one census it lists Mary Jane as Martha even though there is a Martha at the bottom. It only happens on one of them. I, too, found the mistype of the wedding and thought my g-grandma was illegitimate for a while. I found links that take the clouds all the way back to England in the 1500's. I'm beginning to think that one of the Clouds must have married an Indian...but it's soooo hard to tracy the maternal side. Thanks for your info. and I'm going to save these in case I find more....OH! I almost forgot. The ONLY Indian reference I've found is in Wiley Van Buren Cloud...he is the brother of fLiza, Nancy and Mary Jane...he died in Oklahoma in the Choctaw Indian territory. I just found that the other day and haven't had time to look into qualifications to live in this area or anything. Let's keep each other posted. DeAnne

    1. Need better subject lines! Checked out Ken Cloud's and Tom Cloud's websites?
    2. Dear Newbie, Glad to have you along! However, perhaps you might find you get more assistance if you were to put the name, year (even approx), and area of the person or persons you are trying to research in your subject heading. Many of us are subscribed to numerous lists and we use the subject headings to simply delete many of the hundred or more messages we get every day from rootsweb.com lists. People will know if you are possibly among the folks that they can make a connection with if you used a better subject heading. Has anyone told you yet about the websites of Tom Cloud and Ken Cloud? They both operate as sort of clearing houses for Cloud family names. There are differences in their pages so it is definitely worthwhile to go to both. Neither Tom nor Ken vouches for any of the folks in their huge ged.coms except for the people that they themselves have researched and proved (or nearly proved through secondary sources and good reasoning). I, however, found some incorrect information on Ken's site that I could put together with some family oral history and I was able to sort out the booboo and break down a very old brick wall! It is well worth checking out any information in both sites. It could be really good information! And, if it is somewhat flawed, it may give you just enough information to find your family and to get to the documents that show they are yours! Ken's website address is called Kennyc's Cloud Family Page. Get into the database by going to: _http://www.cloudweb.org/_ (http://www.cloudweb.org/) Tom's website is called My Kindred.com. Get into his database to see if you can find matches at: _http://mykindred.com/sitemap.htm_ (http://mykindred.com/sitemap.htm) Good luck with your research! Karen Carter Leander, TX
