Crowell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, February 04, 2001 2:52 PM Subject: Several Surnames on single page of Directory List,When multiple Surnames are list on a single page, should only one Personal File # be assigned to that page, or should a Personal File # be assigned for each Surname, and like Surnames filed id separate file folders? ============== David....One Personal File # is what I would do. I use the Personal File # to tell me where I have physically filed the document and I link all the names mentioned in the document to that same Personal File #. For example, in a Directory where I find several names of interest, I would assign a Personal File # of something like "Corson #12-Dir" and link all the names I want to keep track of to that same File #. That tells me that I filed the copy of the directory pages with my ancestor #12. If I ask for a report on any of those other individuals, I will find a reference to them appearing in the directory filed with my ancestor #12. Your Personal File # can be any unique ID number that you want, based on your filing system. Hope this helps.....Susan
