Thanks to everyone for the effort, but this may not be possible. After I have removed all multiple spaces, so that the document contains only single spaces, then if I replace the single spaces with comas, I get comas between first given and second given names, and also comas between the day-month-year fields. Incidentally, FYI, under the "find & replace" tab, there is another choice - "more" which reveals the "format" & "special" buttons, with drop down menues. Under "special" there is a choice for "white space" which finds all blank spaces and in one operation allows the replacement of all "white space" with - what ever you choose - in my case, just one space. Pretty neat - I've learned a lot today, but unfortunately, not enough. :( Will have to try to get a different format out of one of the three versions of PAF that I have. WORD 6.0 & 7.0 work the same way for "find & > > replace".
