Hi, I'm new to this list and wonder if you might have some advise for me prior to my use of TMG and Clooz. I've got TMG gold and am waiting for Clooz to arrive. I thought that I might as well start using both at the same time as I've never entered all my research into any genealogy program. I vacillated on a filing system until I read about Clooz and hope it was a good decision on my part to use it. Do you have any suggestions as to how to use Clooz's filing system and a genealogy program? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ann
Hi Ann and all - - - I, too, use TMG and Clooz, and am somewhat of a novice at both, but so far I find that using them together is just the way to go. Record what you will as a source in TMG and then the same listing in Clooz. Then file your documents as you go. I've been categorizing about 25 years of documents, so it is a big "catch up" project, but it is making me a much more systemized searcher. I am going back and recording "where'd I get that" in TMG now. There was no good way to do that when first entering folks in my first genealogy program years ago. [Too early old, to late smart!] Better to get started right, but Clooz allows "catch upers" to get there section by section. My major suggestion: Check the Clooz archives for some great ideas for your filing addresses [Personal File #s]. Think out how you think you will use the documents. You may want to find a document without going into Clooz. Others have some great ideas on how to do that. I have used a modified system suggested by others. I think you will find the two programs complement each other. I wish I had started with Clooz earlier. If you have your names in the genealogy program you can import them into Clooz so that you can link them easily to the sources and documents you will enter into Clooz. I think once you get the program and read the manual this will make more sense. The main suggestion I have is to think about how you want to organize your material before you begin. Give yourself reasonable goals for entering your material. It doesn't all have to be done at once. If you have a lot to enter it may seem overwhelming. Remember you didn't collect it all at once.
