    3. Linking businesses to death and burial templates sounds like a good idea. I know of at least 2 funeral homes owned by members of my family tree. 3. The purpose of Clooz, though, is to link people or businesses to documents that they are found in. If there are business records for the funeral home, you can enter them and link the funeral home as a business. You can do that now. I'm not sure why you need to link a business to a death record, because it's recording a death of a person. There are places in the detail form to record the funeral home for both the burial and the death records. If the burial records are from a cemetery, then the cemetery would be the source and would not need to be linked. I'm still not convinced there needs to be businesses linked to burial and death records. At 04:47 PM 8/27/2006, you wrote: >Linking businesses to death and burial templates sounds like a good idea. 1. Re: [CLOOZ] Connecting Businesses to Documents
    2. Liz, I am really confused now. As I understand it from reading your published user maunel a source is where a record originates and a record is the information your interested in within the source. One type of source is a document which is defined as an original paper relied on as the basis, proof or support of something. I have a Holy Card from a funeral service. That holy card is an unpublished document given to mourners. Therefore the source is the holy card itself. The repository is "me" as i am in possession of the original and funeral homes do not keep the cards in their records. I also do not believe that they are official business documents of the funeral home. Also many of the funeral homes are no longer in existence and their records are destroyed. As a holy card attests to date of death of an individual as well as to the funeral home or business that was in charge of the funeral I recorded it as a death record and then connect both the deceased person and the business to that record. >From your response below I am led to believe that the actual source is not the holy card itself but the funeral home or business. Therefore for letters and other unpublished documents the source would not be the letter or unpublished document itself but the author of the letter or unpublished document who may or may not be known. If that is the case I am really misreading the user manuel I bought. Can you show me where I have gone wrong. Moving to a different topic. I have a business that was owned by my faimily. In this case a funeral home. i have set the funeral home up as a business. As you say the purpose of Clooz is to link people or business to documents. I want to connect that business to every document that references the funeral home. The funeral home is referenced in death certificates, cemetery records, newspaper clippings, and holy cards. Why would I want to have all of these documents which mention the funeral home connected to the business and therefore in one place? For me genealogy is about more than names and dates. It is also about understanding family dynamics and their lives. If i can open the business screen for the funeral home and see all of the people who have contracted with them to do funerals and I see certain family members missing I am going to ask why. It also helps me to understand how the business developed over time by how many funerals it was contracted to service. It also shows which neighbors, godparents, inlaws and others supported the home. In my case I also had two cousins who each owned a different funeral home and were in competition. Seeing who used which funeral home helps me to understand their competition. While i know this information is not about names and dates of genealogy, it is important for me in order to understand the relationships of the different members of! the family. For what it is worth, that is my reasoing for wanting to connect a business to a death or funeral record. I have used the program for several years now and have found it very helpful. I have made discoveries that I missed when only seeing various documents in isolation. I just hope that I have not misunderstood sources and filed everything wrong. I look forward to being enlightened Tim -----Original Message----- From: liz@ancestordetective.com To: clooz@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 27 Aug 2006 5:04 PM Subject: Re: [CLOOZ] Connecting Businesses to Documents The purpose of Clooz, though, is to link people or businesses to documents that they are found in.
