    3. I have not had exactly this problem, but I am using CLOOZ to tracking some research that I am performing. Basically, I wanted to record the information from different references, among them books concerning the research SURNAMES. Since this was a unique project, I just assigned a reference number to the book. This worked fine for the book, but when I wanted to link the SURNAMES to the reference, I found I needed to add each SURNAME to the people list. As I continued my research, I extracted some information from a SOUNDEX file, and realized that if I used the census forms, I would also have to add the individual names. Since this was more than I desired to do, I will be using the correspondence document category, as it seems to fit my needs. Maybe a generic extract document category should be added. Not sure. Anyway, in answer to your question, you could use anything you wanted to, but I would not include the speccific surname. Your reference number should refer to the entire source, not portions of the source. That is what the linking to specific name provides.
