    3. Hi Tom I am a user of both Clooz and The Master Genealogist (TMG), so I don't have any issue with keeping my electronic file cabinet and my genealogy software in synchronization, because they don't talk to each other. This same question did, however, come up pretty recently in the TMG forum, where someone asked about being able to keep two separate TMG databases synchronized. TMG is a Visual FoxPro-based app. Liz may correct me on this, but there is not any mechanism built-into Clooz to keep multiple databases in synch. And as far as generic software to synchronize the databases is concerned, this is not precisely my area of expertise, but based upon what experience I do have in the database world, I can't conceive that there is any generic software out there that will do what you want. I believe that it would have to be a truly custom piece of software that had been written specifically to handle the job of keeping the same Clooz database on multiple computers in sync. This is partly because such a piece of software wouldn't be able to compare the same data files between the 2 PCs to see what has changed, but rather would have to compare each individual record in each data file. This would not be a trivial undertaking. Consider the complexities of the task: 1. A Clooz database consists of a great many data talbes that are working in conjunction with each other. A change to a piece of data in one table can affect a great many other tables. 2. A new record can have been added on computer A that does not yet exist on computer B or vice versa. 3. An existing record can have been deleted on computer A but not on computer B or vice versa. 4. An existing record can have been modified on both computer A and computer B with totally different modifications. 5. An existing record can have been modified on computer A and deleted on computer B or vice versa. 6. Every time a record in Clooz is changed, any child records that are tied to it are potentially impacted also. And this is just a few of the considerations that would have to be taken into account. I suspect that it would take a pretty spiffy piece of custom code to accomplish what you have in mind without running great risk of demolishing your data. And Clooz belongs to a small enough company that I doubt seriously whether any 3rd party software developers have created such a program. Just my opinion, for what it's worth. Let's say there are two people working on either coast of the US. We initially both have the same copy of our Legacy database. Each of us also has a Clooz database. Each of us enters a person into Clooz which auto-populates our separate Legacy tables. We next follow-on and update that persons sex in Legacy as Clooz doesn't do sex data. The "Keeper" (west coast) enters John Doe into Clooz and the east coast worker enters Jane Green into theirs. At this point each of our Legacy and Clooz tables are different. The east coast worker send the "Keeper" there updated Legacy table. The Legacy "Keeper" of the master copy of that table merges the east coast updated table with hers. At this point the "Keeper" has an up-to-date Legacy table created from the input of the east coast worker. Also at this point the east coast worker and the "Keeper" have different data in their respective Clooz tables. Since Legacy has linkages to Clooz and both Clooz tables are different, how can I get them synchronized as I do in Legacy? I realize I am getting a little wordy here and maybe the answer is that you can't. If I were to overwrite the "Keeper's" Clooz table with mine she would end up having a Clooz table that was not in sync with her Legacy table. Tnx in advance... To keep my desktop and laptop in sync, I just copy the clooz data file to my other computer.
