It appears that it is possible to attach only one digital file. Is that correct? When I have one in already and try to put another in, the first is replaced. I have situations where I have multiple files for the same "document" This mainly occurs with deeds and probate records. I take digital photographs in courthouses of deeds, but often it takes two or three photographs to get the whole deed. Then I like to transcribe the deed. I'd like to be able to be able to put in all the files that are part of that one "document." Patti
I was just starting to work with some of my materials to get them entered into Clooz and I wondered about the censuses. I thought the old version had boxes to fill in for each section of the census. I see that there is a place for all of the info for the entire page, but I don't see any place to enter (except the description) the data for individuals. I don't think it will be too much trouble to enter it there; I just thought the old version had that. While reading some of the messages on legacy, this question was brought forth several times by some of the members, I wanted to post it here get the feed back from Liz and let her have a chance at explaining how the interface with Clooz and Legacy is designed, how it works and what pointers she feels are important to be aware of - so, Liz take it away! First of all I have read the manual for Clooz 2 repeatedly and I guess I'm a bit dense because I'm not sure how to correctly enter information on the New Source screen for Documents to be entered. Specifically birth/marriage/death vital records that have been scanned on the New England Historical Genealogical Society (NEHGS) web site. Because these are not certificates offically issued, rather they are scanned copies of the records that were copied by the Towns (mostly hand written) and sent from to the Archieves in Boston, I have selected to record the data in "Document" instead of "Certificate". Any option on this decision? OK, now to my question. The following is an example of a New Source for a Document that I am not sure I'm recording correctly: Source Title: Death Record for Jeremiah Van Loan Agency: Great Barrington, MA Town Hall Item #: No. 53 (I used the number of the entry on the specific page of the document) File #: Vol.174 (I used the Volume # of the document) Collection: Pg. 39 (I used the Page # of the document) File or Collection Name: Deaths Registered in Great Barrington, MA for 1865 Respository: I entered Boston Archives, since these documents are only hand copied from the original ledgers that are retained in Great Barrington (or other towns). Digital File: The scan at the NEHGS web site is great but doesn't save very clear, sometimes blurred so much you can't read it, so I didn't save it digially, just a hard copy, so I left this blank. Does anyone have any option on my method? Since I have about 200 documents to enter (most of my family lines come from Massachusets), I want to make sure I am entering them correctly before I get started. By the way, if anyone has family from MA, the NEHGS is a gold mine for vital records from 1851 - 1910. As a member ($75 a year) you also have access to Heritage Quest for census records and more. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joan Swaney ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. How do I get the state census year (ex: 1856) to show up on the All Censuses List? I have added the new source and used it. jane
I am: John F Quinn Old address: <<socaljackquinn@cs.com >> My new address is: <<jfquinn@msn.com >> Thanks
I'm aware of the problem, but my programmer is on an extended vacation and I haven't heard from him. You can get around the problem by adding the street name under Lists and then selecting that street from the dropdown in the birth detail form. It only happens on that form in the street name for the mother. Liz Kerstens At 03:31 PM 6/1/2006, Anita A. After trial & error, I figured out that this is from the street address in the template. If I deleted the street name, the record saved. This seems to be the only template where this error occurred. If the address was already used in a census record or in the death or marriage record, this error does not happen. Hope this will help to narrow down a fix. When trying to save and exit from the birth record template I received the following error: Project name: Clooz Source: IntegerType.FromString Description: Cast from string "Indiana" to type 'Integer' is not valid. Is there a fix for this? Thanks Bonny
You click on Sources from the Clooz Hub in 1.23 to edit sources. To delete a source, you open it and click on the red X on the toolbar. I re-installed Clooz 1.23 and loaded my old database so I could find out who were on the state censuses. I went between the two programs and attached the people to each census and quickly put in enough source data to keep track of them. Later I tried to go back to the sources, so I could search the internet and get the required information for the sources. I can't find a way to get to that page! I've read and re read the Help files but can't seem to find out how to edit the sources. Once I have put in the new source, how do I delete the useless one? Jane
When you are entering pre-1850 census records, do you create people for the unnamed individuals in the household? If the census shows 1 male under age 10, and you arent sure who that male is, do you create an unnamed person and link him to the census? Seems like doing that would get incredibly confusing after a while TIA, Carol
I am planning on using Clooz to organize my research from a one-name study that I am currently working on. Most of the people in the study are not closely related to my line, and I doubt I will ever enter them in a lineage based genealogy program. I am trying to decide how to number my documents. It seems like the simplest method would be the best - just number each document and don't worry about dividing them by category (birth, death, census, etc.). I will be filing my documents in 3-ring binders. What is the down-side of using this type of numbering system (00001, 00002, etc.)? It seems easier to implement than BIR001, or MAR001, etc. I am guessing that it will impact on the types of reports I can print, but I'm not sure. TIA, Carol
Greetings All... I was just curious... I purchased an upgrade to Clooz 2.0 a while ago... and I can't figure out from the website how to download the upgrade... without having to purchase another upgrade... Any ideas? Thanks -- Jim Jim Smith Tampa, FL _jsmith58@tampabay.rr.com_
Hi In the new version of Clooz I find I am unable to link multiple members on Census records without returning to the link option, i.e. it reverts back to the search option after each family member is linked. Am I doing something incorrectly? Regards Maurice Keith French Flagstaff Hamilton New Zealand
Dear Liz, Are the censuses only available for printing on legal sized paper? The manual and help does explain that not all of the reports are in Clooz yet. I've been saying that for a while now. That's why there's no CD yet. You can print the U.S. census population schedules, but that's all that's available so far. We're working on adding the rest of the reports. You won't have that button that was on the forms in 1.23 in 2.0. The whole program is set up differently. All of the reports are accessible only from the reports screen. In the previous version of Clooz you could click on a button to "Preview a Report of the Current Document" on the document entry screen and then printout a copy of the document entry, census record or whatever you were viewing with the linked people and the information entered for each person. That button & option appears to be missing from the update. I looked in the online manual but I could find no mention of printing out a single document entry. The reports function does not provide this option and I found it useful to printout a copy of the Clooz information to keep with the document. Thanks for any help. Roland
