This feature/enhancement would be something to do across all of Clooz. -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, CG, CGL [mailto:liz@ancestordetective.com] Sent: Thursday, June 29, 2006 4:46 PM To: Clooz-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Clooz] Clooz 2 suggestion I don't know if we can do that or not. Dick- Yes, just click on the icon and let it come up again and then shrink it to fit your needs. It may take adjusting a bit to do what you need for whatever you are working on, but works fine. jane
I don't know if we can do that or not. I'll ask my programmer. Thanks for the suggestion. Bruce- You can do it easily by opening 2 copies of Clooz and shrinking each to fill about half the screen. I choose to do it vertically. I move the left one a bit off the screen and make sure the slider on the right one is one the screen. If you play with it a bit you can probably get it to suit you. jane
As I use Clooz 2, I find that I was inconsistent, confused etc. etc. in entering my data in Clooz 1. I am needing to edit Sources as I review each Document, and as I am better organized . It appears that I can not keep open the Document window at the same time as the Source window, so it is time consuming to have to repeatedly to select, open and close these windows back and forth. I'd like to suggest that various window panes could be kept open at the same time for easier cross referencing. Thanks, Bruce
I recently downloaded and purchased Clooz 2 and am very happy with it. However, I feel that there is one thing that's missing. Before I started using Clooz I created my own relational database, using Filemaker Pro. It was based on people as opposed to documents. In each person's record I included a portal so that I could view details of the document or research records that were related to that person. By clicking a button I could open any one of those related records and view it in full. Are there any plans to incorporate this facility into Clooz. It would be very useful to be able to go directly from person to document as well as from document to person. Douglas

The page number goes on the detail screen for each person, which is where it was in earlier versions of Clooz. All of these changes are described in detail in online help and in the manual. Liz
Nancy- Go to Sources and open a census you have there. At the top you will see there are two tabs. On the second page you will find what you are looking for. jane
If I am remembering correctly, I seem to recall that in the previous version of Clooz, on some of the census forms there were spaces for the film (or roll) number and for 2 page numbers (for the ones that had written and printed page numbers). I don't find that in 2.0? Is that because with census images on-line now, the film numbers are not really needed? I still put them in the comment section "just in case" but I was curious about why it was removed. Thanks so much, Nancy
Ok, I finally got some time and I am trying to enter my old documents into Clooz. I want to do it right but I am confused on where some of this information goes. For instance, I have a social security application for one of my grandmothers. There is no templete for it so I decided to use the Generic Document. For event I picked Soc Sec Num. My confusion comes to the Sources. I chose Certificate because it was a government issued form, is this correct? What do I title the source? Social Security Application? Do I make it more specific with her name and number? How do I list it correctly in the Source? What goes in Person's name? In reviewing the sample database for Clooz 2, there are some "Source" designations shown simply as "11" etc. Similarly for "Repositories" , "27" but I can't find any way to relate these to the physical sources or repositories listed. What am I missing? Bruce
I have received much information from elder relatives verbally. These were not formal interviews and there are no recordings, transcripts etc. just some essentially scrap paper notes that I made at the time. What would be the logical Source Type for these? "Document" could be used since I have filed the notes as documents in my files, and then with the person listed as the "Source Creator" and the "Source Title" could be: "Interview- 25 July 2001" This method seems somewhat at odds with Liz's statement about a Source being the "native form" of the information. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Bruce

So, you would have to manually delete a duplicate person. The ID # that Clooz assigns will not be reassigned. I do believe we have it set up so that if you delete a person in Clooz that person is also deleted in Legacy, but my memory may be wrong on that one. You should at least get a warning. I have been trying to clean up my files that have been neglected for awhile. In reviewing the information I have in Clooz, I have discovered that I have inadvertantly entered a few people more than once. Is there a way to merge the 2 entries for the same person into one or do I have to delete one of the entries? In doing either, what happens to the ID # for the extra person? Does it get "re-used" later when I enter someone else? I also use Legacy and wonder if deleting a person in Clooz would affect Legacy at all. I did notice that I have one of the people entered twice in Legacy and I know I can merge them there. Thank you for any advice/suggestions. Nancy
Has anyone come across or know of a program that will allow for the assignment of variable and text to a series of key sequences? In working with both legacy and Clooz, there are notes/remarks areas (memo fields) that I would like to do something like "2006-Jun-08: Visited the home place with one of the daughters." This would be that the date (year, month day, or some other combination could be assigned to a key, example a function key and then when the entries are being done the information would be obtained from the pressing of the function key or a sequence of keys - alt Function key.
So, just to be clear - this applies to both the male and female organizations? That is true - in fact, I learned some new aspect of Clooz, how the name was derived, and the beginning of the Research log - which can grow as the program grows - it was worth listening to this morning. -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, CG, CGL [mailto:liz@ancestordetective.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2006 2:38 PM To: Clooz-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Clooz] Podcast Thanks!
