Hi Thelma, My personal situation put a heck of a burden on Rich, which resulted in a slip in our schedule for both the Windows, followed by the Mac versions. If I were you, I would continue with what is working for you now. Regards, Joe

    3. Thank you for all your support and investment of time and energy, Joe. I am a longtime user but relatively inactive for the past couple of years. You and Richard have brought CLOOZ into the realm of mainstream genealogy. Thank you so much. And keep up the great work! I run CLOOZ 3 with Parallels on a Mac. I haven’t had any major problems or concerns doing it that way. Now I need to upgrade the OS and that requires an upgrade of Parallels and Windows. I am wondering if there is still a plan to have CLOOZ for Macs available this spring? Or should I continue with CLOOZ 3 and Parallels? Seasons Greetings. Thelma in Winnipeg

    3. I am a huge fan of Legacy and lead the Twin Cities Legacy Users Group. That is my recommendation. I am sure you will see plenty more. The simplest migration no matter what you choose is to export a gedcom file from FTM and then import that file to your software of choice. Good luck in your search. I have a question for all: now that Family Tree Maker is discontinued, many of us will be migrating our data to another program. Is there any program in particular that is most easily adapted to, or compatible with, CLOOZ? Forgive me if I'm out of date and this has been covered recently, as I'm just getting back into it after a lengthy absence. Any thoughts? Thanks. 3. Thank you Joe for all your work on CLOOZ. Enjoy your retirement. I, too, have been a member of the community for a very long time. I have not been active in several years. I am primarily an Apple user and my IBM laptop that I used for CLOOZ just got too old and cranky. I printed out all the records that I had entered and saved all the files onto a flash drive. So I hope I am ready to transfer to the MAC version when it comes out. 3. Thanks, Joe, for keeping Clooz alive and improving. Thanks. It's been great working with you to bring about the changes that will become Clooz 4. I wish you the best. Congrats to Rich on his acquisition. I look forward to continuing to work with him on Clooz. 1. [CLOOZ] Announcement
    2. Joe Bissett via
    3. In December 2011 I saw a notice that Elizabeth Kerstens Kelly had to drop her brainchild genealogy program Clooz for a variety of reasons. As a Clooz user since its initial introduction, I knew the potential of the program for my own genealogy research, so I contacted Elizabeth in hopes that I could take over Clooz. Elizabeth and I reached an agreement, and I became the owner of all future editions of Clooz on 1 January 2013. 1. Re: [CLOOZ] data input migration suggestion
    2. Tom Pajak via
    3. Rich and Mike, Finally had time to go through this and put together a more specific description of what I have been working with. For better or worse, here it is. This will be an attempt to provide the answers to the questions previously posed regarding the subject of importing spreadsheet data directly into Clooz. Keep in mind that the data I am describing is unique to the research area in which I am working. That is, microfilm of Polish Catholic parishes, filmed in Poland, and being reviewed in microfilm readers or on a pc after transferring the images digitally. Personally I have found it relatively easy and quick to go through this data and transcribe it to spreadsheets. I believe working with a menu oriented system is much more time consuming and intensive. As a result, this approach ties up limited access equipment at a Family History Center much less. However, analyzing the resultant data is time consuming and when records are identified as ones which need to be included, they must be re-transcribed into whatever charting program/database is being used. Every time data must be transcribed, the possibility for introduction of an error is possible. Clooz looks to be an aid to identifying good record hits, but I am put off by the amount of work it will take to put this data into it. Clooz also should be of assistance in getting the sources consistent across the entire effort. I recognize that records from other sources, in other geographic and cultural areas, will be of different formats, containing varying items of data. The records I am working with are specifically Baptism/birth, Marriage, and Death. In addition, they cover a time period of several hundred years and a multitude of parishes. The result of that is that they are not themselves consistent in what items are included. That in itself should not be a problem, as more details were added as the years progressed. Below are the lists of each of the record type details.   Parentheses indicate description of the record element. Some items may seem redundant but were inserted for convenience when sorting and analyzing the spreadsheet data. The field names/column headings are mine and could easily be made consistent both in spelling and relative position. A record type could be added also. The headings could be easily changed to standards already in place. Baptism/Birth Records: Film number (from Family History Catalog. This identifies the actual and official source of the data) Filename (digital image identifier) Page (page number on the film or relative image number) Parish (Reference name to identify the Parish) Year (year birth occurred) Month (day and month of event) House (house number of parents) Sex Legitimate (indicator to births in/out of wedlock) Name (given name of child) Surname-Father Parents of father (can include one or both parents. Not always recorded) Parent-mother Surname-mother Parents of mother (can include one or both parents. Not always recorded) Godfather Godmother Cond. (Various notes, usually related to occupation of the father)   Marriage record: Film number (from Family History Catalog. This identifies the actual and official source of the data) Item Filename (digital image identifier) Page (page number on the film or relative image number) Parish (Reference name to identify the Parish) Year (year birth occurred) Month (day and month of event) Housegrm (house number of groom) Agegrm (age of groom) Msgrm (current marital status of groom e.g. Widowed, single) Bygrm (birth year of groom) Groomfullname (surname and given name of groom) Groomsurname (surname of groom) Groomname (given name of groom) Vfy (date that record was been double checked) Groom parents (Father and mother of groom) Housebr (house number of bride) Agebr (age of bride) Msbr (current marital status of bride) Bybr (birth year of bride) Bridefullname (surname and given name of bride) Bridesurname (surname of bride) Bridename (given name of bride) Brideorgsur (original surname of bride without suffixes etc.) Brideparents (father and mother of bride) Witness1 (first witness) Witness2 (second witness) Note1 (various information regarding event and status) Note2 “ Note3 “   Death record: Film number (from Family History Catalog. This identifies the actual and official source of the data) Item ( I do not recall what this was to be used for.) Filename (digital image identifier) Page (page number on the film or relative image number) Parish (Reference name to identify the Parish) Year (year birth occurred) Month (day and month of event) House (house number where person lived) Sex (m or f) Age (age of person) Legitimacy (unused for death record) Fullname (surname and given name of person) Name (given name) Surname (surname of person) Father (given name of father) Fathersurname (surname of father) fatherOrgSurname (unused) grandparents(father) (paternal grandfather and grandmother names) mother (given name of mother) motherSurname (surname of mother) MotherOrgSurname (unused) Grandparents(mother) (maternal grandfather and grandmother) Godfather (unused) Godmother (unused) Note1 (various notes regarding other misc. items shown, such as occupation etc.) Note2 “ Note3 “ Approx. bday (calculated year of birth) -----Original Message----- From: Mike James [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, October 28, 2015 6:54 AM To: 'Rich Thomas'; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: RE: [CLOOZ] data input migration suggestion Rich and Tom When I imported my data UK BMD data I addressed the source level by importing to a new Clooz file for each source I had used, e.g. FreeBMD UK Birth Index data. In the case mentioned above the data fields for import were (in Clooz terminology): Month (Quarter) (used on both the Birth Record and the linked Person record) Year (used on both the Birth Record and the linked Person record) Source Title (as discussed above) Description (where I placed the Index reference e.g. ADLARD, Elizabeth, , Sep 1837, Louth, 14, 347) Surname Given Name Birthdate (only quarter and year in this example) I also placed the BMD Index reference in the Remarks field for the person referenced. I adopted a similar approach for UK Marriage and Death index imports. If a proposed automated import were restricted to one source at a time, then all extracted records in an external (csv or other) file relating to that source could be imported en masse. This would make the process of field mapping simpler, but would require more processing outside Clooz. After manually checking the imported data in Clooz, the new file could then be merged (if required) into the main Clooz project file. How would this approach work for you Tom? Regards Mike James

    3. Hello Tom Thanks for the info. If I understand you correctly you have a series of Parish Register entries extracted from FHC films, which cover a number of parishes and time frames. Are these records held is a series of spreadsheet files or just the one file? Would it be possible to post some examples of the types of data you are looking to import? Regards Mike James

    3. Sharon, I got it again. The emails I have are: Clooz by Ancestral Systems <[email protected]> or [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sharon Minchin via Sent: Friday, October 30, 2015 2:43 PM To: Joe Bissett <[email protected]> Subject: [CLOOZ] Clooz 3 Hi Joe, I have been an avid owner of Clooz since it first began and have paid for updates up until now. I switched from PC to MAC computer and have had conversations asking you when the Mac version might be ready for release. <smile>?? Our family has had a super busy year and I missed the offer made to those who are in danger of having their licence expire. I have just now dug out my PC with Vista running that I have my Clooz database on and have brought it up to date with Version 3.3.10.3. My serial number is C30858193812492MS. Am I still able to keep my licence alive? Do you know yet how you will handle a Mac release to licence holders who started in the old, old days before you took it over regarding having to pay for the Mac version? I know these questions are still on the drawing board probably but I really believe in your product and always have since the beginning of the program and I would love to continue on. Unfortunately, as I have changed to a Mac computer, I have lapsed in the upgrades and the new things you have added so it will be a learning experience finding out the wonderful new possibilities you have added to the software. In closing now that I have it updated to the version I stated above, am I able to use it now and am I up to date with where you are now? Is my serial number now still active for support and for further renewals? I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible regarding my questions and my apologies for not getting to this earlier. Life has just not been kind to us this past year unfortunately.
