David, this error is mentioned on the Clooz Knowledge Base at http://www.clooz.com/kbsa.htm. You need to send me your database so I can fix it. At 08:49 PM 10/27/00 -0700, David P. How should I enter will and marriage abstracts which reference different events on the same page? Should they be entered as one document referencing multiple events and people? For example, I have copies of pages from a book of will abstracts. On one page, there may be two different will abstracts that I am interested in. Are they supposed to be entered as one document or two? And what about books or journal articles that list abstracts of marriage bonds? Or even taking it further, how would I enter the people I find in a book like "Kentucky Marriages to 1850"? In the past, I have been keeping all pages from one source as one document. Is this wrong? Thanks, Michele Colson [email protected]

I had the same problem. Here's what I did: I solved the report export problem by going to the Setup subdirectory under Clooz and running setup.exe. When I was prompted to insert the CD-ROM, I clicked on "CANCEL." Then I got a prompt saying I could still run setup without those files, and I clicked OK. That seemed to fix that problem, though I still have another: Error 2160 - Clooz couldn't create the graphic or text. An error occurred while initializing the Print method or one of the report graphics methods (Circle, Line, PSet, Scale). As always, be sure to back up your data before trying anything. I was attempting to export a report and the following error message comes up: Error 2281 The formats that enable you to output data as a Microsoft Excel, rich-text format, MS-DOS text or HTML file are missing or incorrectly registered in the Windows registry. Run setup to reinstall Clooz. I have the stand alone version of Clooz. Should I run setup from the CD or reinstall just the most recent patch? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Elizabeth - - Thanks for your response. I discovered how to remove the "wrong person" from the Census attached groups. However, what still remains to eliminate is a part of a Census listing "Personal File#" which is wrong. It shows on the listing of all Censuses, but if I double click on it I get a blank gray page that does not move. I can go to "Clooz" on the tool bar, and bring up the Hub and go on about my business, but the "junk" is still there. It seem not to be causing any troubles [ I have attached lots of folks to about two dozen Censuses so far. Next is to discover how reports work. A nice convenience in future releases of Clooz would be auto fill-in for the months of the year. So, for example, if you type in "S" "September would appear or "Jul" "July" would appear in the birth, death or marriage fields. This would save a lot of keystrokes. In addition I would like to see some auto fill-in abbreviations like "Abt." for "c" (circa) and other commonly used terms (before [Bef.], after [Aft.] etc.) used in association with dates when the exact date is not known. Just food for thought. Doug Doug Purcell 633 North Randolph Avenue Eufaula, AL 36027-1209 [email protected] or [email protected]

Liz, I think this is what everyone means when they are asking for a more comprehensive report. I realize that if you tried to print out everything that was entered for each person, it would be more than one page in width. But I would like a report that prints out say everyone from my Illinois census reports with as much information as will fit on the page. You could program it to print landscape instead of portrait. At the very least I would want name age relationship number of years married(if available), occupation, birth place, Father's birth place, Mother's birth place, and township and county where census taken and of course year of census. A report such as the above would make it easier to spot trends, for example a family that lived in Edwards county for awhile and then suddenly moves to Wayne county. Then the next time you look for them in the census records you will know to go straight to Wayne county if you are looking for later censuses of this family. Or you currently have one that prints out all information for one person. Is there anyway to print out all the information from one family on the same report. Since the individuals in the program are not linked in any way, we might have to enter the individual ID number for each person that we would want to appear on the report. I have been entering all of my census information into my genealogy program, Legacy, because in the events section, I can put the year of the census and the place and age of the individual will show on the screen, this helps me to spot trends. If I start using Clooz again, it would be to just record the bare information from each census report so I could have a list and not search for the same census page again. Thanks for allowing input into future programs or versions. Yes there is a way to see all the Census information, from the Hub, click on Census, then highlight the one you wish to print or view, then on the left side of the screen you will see the report bottom, the one with the magnifining class, just click and there is your report. is there anyway of printing out a census report that includes all the information that was recorded like name, relationship, occupation, sex, and so forth. John
Help - - I just started to enter Census data. The 8th person was not in the database, so I tried to enter her, BUT somehow I selected someone else that was on the data base. That person ended up on the list of folks on the 1850 U.S. Federal Census list [which is the one I was starting on}. I tried to figure out how to get rid of that person, but obviously I did the wrong thing. I went to the "undo" arrow at the top of the page. That really screwed it all up. Now, when I go the "Clooz Census Records" page I get a partial listing under "Perasonal File #" and nothing else. When I double click on it, it seems OK, it just has none of the folks I had entered. So o o o when I click on "link" I get the following message - - - "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. bla-bla-bla and so forth. Maybe these are my questions: How to empty all of the Census forms, folks etc., so I can start over? How to remove a person entered in a list of folks in a census that is there in error? Yes, yes, I studyed the manual prior to starting and again while entering folks, but that seems not to have been sufficient. Help! Help! Vince Correll, Fresno, CA

I have always been open to suggestions for improvements in Clooz. If you don't like the way something works or doesn't work, just let me know and I'll try and incorporate the change into the next patch or version. I've been doing that all along. Not entering data into Remarks because it doesn't appear on a report you want it to can be short-sighted. Then when the reports incorporate what you've been looking for, you'll need to go back and work on a document again to get the details in. Why not put it all in at once and let me know how you'd like the reports to print? All data that is entered appears in that document's report. Other reports are meant as overviews of the documents. But I have an open mind and if you'd like it a different way, just tell me. I keep reading about references about Cathy's idea for Marriage records. Somehow I missed it or possibly it was before I became a Clooz user. Will soneone please post what ever information is availabe or maybe Cathy can reply. Thanks for any assistance.. [email protected]
I liked Cathy's idea for numbering documents, and I think I'll try that. I started entering documents but wasn't satisfied with the ease of lookup either. This just might do it. I have mostly entered census records. I use this type of numbering: OH-Han-1850-001 That's the state, county, year, and number. The reason I do this is that I don't want to have to go to the Clooz database to do a lookup every single time I want to find a census record. This numbering organizes my manuals so that I have a limited number of records to look through to find one. It also allows me a quick check method for just perusing the manuals to find neighbors or detail data without looking into Clooz. I've found that, using TMG, I do better to enter just the basic info for families into Clooz, and put the detail data into TMG. By basic I mean name, age, township & county, and that's about it. That's really all you get on the Clooz comparative reports, as far as I can tell. Someone asked if anyone had found a report that shows the details; I haven't, and that's why I don't enter them. The only report I've found that shows the details of census data is the one where you print out the actual census form for a given entry. If the data doesn't appear on a report that compares similar persons, I don't see the point of entering all that data just to have it on the one census abstract form. Len
Hi, I have used at least five numbers for numbering when I know I will eventually have a huge database of something such as Marriages. I use marr00005, News00010, Cem00102. It will not take long to have more than 100 or 1000 records of some events. For census records I took an idea someone on the list suggested and it has worked great so far: state year, hyphen, number for example TN1850-0001 and then I have a census notebook for each state. Right now it is one big notebook with dividers for each state (states I have census records for) and as I add census records it will develop into a note book for each state (probably about 12-15 states for me). This has been simple to find in the index- just go right to TN rather than having to look through census records 0001, etc.- cuts to the chase. I think I will go back and adopt Cathy's idea for Marriage records, etc. and list the event out rather than birth, death, etc. Seems like a great idea and will also be able to know at a glance if I have the record I'm looking for and then can go straight to the notebook for the document. For those of you who haven't started using Clooz just jump on in. I'm a very disorganized individual and have 17 years of accumulated "stuff" all over my house and Clooz has been a tremendous help in organizing. I do a little bit several times a wk and I have manually added individuals as I've needed them. I have not gotten overwhelmed. In fact, I've enjoyed having control over my mounds of paper- still a major work in progress- but I see there will be daylight at the end of the tunnel. Happy Hunting and Organizing, Margaret
