    1. [Clooz] what is the secret to getting names into clooz?
    2. I have been trying and trying to get my "report" from FTM (version 7.0) to look like the example in the manual. It won't work. For starters, I DO NOT have the option of only Surname and Given name. Middle names are in my options, and/or the report function can list the names "First Last"--not "Last First", as the manual says... Also, the manual says to re-name the columns of the report to be exactly as they are in the manual--when do we do this? After exporting or before--not clear... I have never used Find and Replace--but it doesn't seem to do what the manual says either, (I have Word 97) as far as deleting the spaces, and inserting commas. I hope that I can get going on this software--I purchased it quite a few months ago, and have done NOTHING with it!! Any help is appreciated. M. Smith

    3. In order to export your Legacy file to Clooz, go to File>Export To and the last item is Clooz. I can't remember which build Legacy incorporated this feature, so if you can't find it, go to the Legacy site for a free update. 3. If you select No when prompted to fill in the information from the previous detail screen, Clooz does not carry information forward. Perhaps you mistakenly selected yes and in that case, Clooz would write over the information there with the information from the previous detail screen. This is not a bug, sorry. The program is operating as expected. I use this feature all the time and I know it's working properly. 1. [Clooz] Marriage Document Report Problem
    2. Hello, I could use some help please....... I'm having a problem with Report in my standalone Clooz, ver. 1.22 running in Windows 98. I made a report by using REPORTS > DOCUMENTS > ALL DOCUMENTS and while I was looking my Marriage document report over, I was surprised to see that each couple linked to their marriage document now have the same surname as either the husband or the wife for that document, yet their first names were still shown being correct. I went back to the Clooz Hub Documents button so I could edit my marriage documents and see what was happening. I found that the correct name file was linked to the proper marriage documents. Opening up each detail name file window showed that for each marriage document, one of the couples surnames and their parents names had indeed changed to match the other linked surname and parents. The rest of the data seemed to be correct. It's as if the software itself is triggering the "YES" button in the "DO YOU WANT TO FILL THE DETAIL FROM THE PREVIOUS DATA?" Thanks, Charlie

    1. [Clooz] Wish List
    2. Kay Allen Groves
    3. If the following changes are not already being considered, I would like to add the following Wish List items for consideration- 1. The ability to adjust column widths or at least the ability to be able to use a narrower font for the default. This would solve my problem when entering the Personal File #s for my list of census records. I started following the method that one of the Listers uses -- using state, county and census year in the PF# . With states such as VA, SD, and CA, the entire PF# won't fit in the column, whereas a state such as IL, for instance, will. Some fonts have narrower letters. I use the stand alone version of Clooz and haven't been able to change the font. 2. I would appreciate having more dropdown windows available, particularly in various census years, for items such as birthplaces, etc. 3. Because some census years have check marks if a person DOES Know how to read and/or write but other census years have check marks if a person DOES NOT know how. It would be helpful if a footnote or some other indication would be added to the form headings to show up when census reports are printed so the reader knows what the checkmark means. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide for my Wish List. -kay thesarge

    1. Re: [Clooz] Correspondence report
    2. Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, CGRS
    3. The reason you don't see a date is because there is no date in the correspondence detail form. That's where that report gets it's dates from. I'll have to reconfigure the report for when it encounters correspondence events so you'll get a date on it. That change will be included in an upcoming patch. 3. To delete a person, you have to open that person's record. Same with documents. You can't delete them from the list, you open the record and then you'll see the red X on the toolbar. 1. [Clooz] Re: Clooz-D Digest V00 #160 - How I track negative findings
    2. Stephen Speltz
    3. Good question - I do the tracking in my genealogy program. I recently switched to TMG and use their "research log" effectively. Negative results may be attached to a person, an event, a source, or a repository. Prior to TMG I used Family TreeMaker. In that program I put my negative results in the "note" field of the specific person. FTM also has a "research journal", however it is not specific to a person or event, hence the use of the "note" field in that program. I only use Clooz to organize my file cabinet full of the documents that I have found to support my tree. I suppose you could create a NOCENSUS 001 or NOBIRTH 001 document, etc., in Clooz and link a person to it. Or a CORR 001 (correspondence)document from some authority that says a presumed fact isn't correct (I may have a few of these in my Clooz file), but that all seems very unwieldy. My suggestion is to use your genealogy program. Stephen E. 3. Hello Ruth and all, I responded to Debra's question with how I've used it for negative research. Don't remember whether it automatically went to Debra only, or I overrode it. Anyway, my response to Debra was: Hi Debra, I haven't done it to track someone in the census. But, I have to record if I've checked a book for someone. I just entered the book title and info and then in the message area put that I found no Gaddis' in it. I had the same problem. I couldn't remember which books I checked and which ones I hadn't. I think I labeled the record as Bookneg for Book negative. Hope this helps. Patty I'm not sure that my response will help anyone, but at least it will show others that it is being used for negative findings also.
