    1. Document number for books
    2. Patty Lill
    3. What kind of personal file number should I use for books or articles in journals that I own? I won't be making copies of them. But I would like to reference everyone mentioned in these sources. For example, I have a book called "Old Families of Louisiana". It is broken down into sections by family name. Because so many people are mentioned in this book, I would like to break down my Clooz document groupings by these sections. So, the source would be "Old Families of Louisiana". And let's say one of the sections I'm referencing is "Watts". Any suggestions as to what I should use for the Document number? Book-Watts? Book-OFL-Watts? (I thought I should perhaps start the document number with "Book" because it is filed with my books.) Has anyone else run into something like this?

    1. Archive/Backup
    2. Clyde M. Watson, Jr.
    3. I've been using Clooz a short time, getting names in, etc. I'm unclear about just how the Archive function works. Each time I exit Clooz I do click on Archive. Where does the archived file go and how do I access it??? I have gone into Windows Explorer and there are 7 files that I think are archived files, but I'm not sure. When I try to open one of them I get a blank dark screen. All 7 are 424KB. I'm adding data each time I use clooz, so if these are my archived files why are they all the same size? And why do I have 7? If each time I archive the file it overwrites the previously archived file how have I accumulated 7 archived files, each taking up 424KB on hard drive. I have tried to delete the oldest one and get the message that this file cannot be deleted. The only help the Manual offers is to say you should "Archive" frequently and that you should copy archived file onto floppy disks. Assuming that the 7 files I've found are my archived files, how do I move an archived file to a floppy disk? I've not been able to do this. I would like to get archived file onto a floppy disk and off my hard drive. It would sure be nice if I could just backup my data straight to a floppy like I can with my genealogy program (TMG). Help please, Clyde Watson

    3. I've been using Legacy for about a month now. Imported my info into Clooz without one problem. That was nice after suffering through the pains of trying to get it done with FTM. I find Legacy to be a nice powerful program. It amazes me that it's free. I like it much better over the program I paid for. Debra

    3. WOW I fought with getting the custom report in the right format from Family Tree Creator Deluxe all day yesterday to import just one little portion of my database into Clooz. I read that note From Barbara and checked out Legacy, I think this may be an excellent companion to Clooz for the pretty diplays my family needs to understand this research. I'm ever so hopeful, FTCD is a very limited program and often frustrating. Clooz was the best thing that has happened in my reserch for a long time and I think Legacy will be just the icing I need.

    3. A database with this much problem is THE problem. I just downloaded my entire database from Legacy 3.0 (offered for free on their website) into Clooz. No problem, no bugs. I just had to be sure the import file from Legacy was in the Clooz folder. Period. I find Legacy to be plenty powerful and very simple to use. It has a great manual plus good support on line. Now I am inspired to get my act together with Clooz. By the way: I am NOT proficient in computer stuff. I have given these photocopies document numbers like BIRTH-001, BIRTH-002, etc. I'm now wondering how people number the originals that go with these photocopies, and also how they would number the associated scans kept on a CD with photos. Is it better to use the same number as the photocopy but with an O or S appended (BIRTH-001-O, BIRTH-001-S) or perhaps with an indicator in front (ORIG-BIRTH-001, CD-BIRTH-001)? 3. Maria, I require people to register with me because I provide free technical support. It's only fair to me as a business person that people that legitimately own the software get this free support. I'm also a one-person business and have to watch out for my business. Additionally, you can now download a demo version of Clooz for free, and then you can download the Clooz 1.22 patch for free, but you need the serial number to install it. If I wasn't careful, I'd be giving away my software. Like it or not, this is my livelihood and I have to protect my interests. So I insist that people provide proof of purchase. I'm not the only company that has this practice. I have always required that people send in their registration cards and there are many customers that have been able to do this. There aren't that many vendors that sell Clooz. I suggest that you contact Ancestry to see if you purchased it from them. They sell the most copies of Clooz. Ancestry will be happy to provide you with a copy of your receipt, as would any other vendor that sells Clooz. 2. Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, CGRS
    3. I just sent out information about updating to the 1.22 Clooz patch but didn't give a location for the download. It's at http://www.clooz.com/download.htm. You'll need a serial number to install the program, as described on that page. If you don't have the serial number, contact me and I'll let you know if you're registered or not. You must be registered as a user to get the serial number. If you have the Clooz 1.22 CD and want to download the 1.22 patch, you'll need a different serial number as the one you got with your program might not work. If that's the case, let me know. If you're registered, I'll send you a different serial number. 3. This is a glitch that was fixed after the new CDs were created. If you download the Clooz 1.22 patch, this problem has been resolved in it. If you haven't yet downloaded the patch, you'll need to get the serial number from me in order to install it. You must be a registered user of Clooz in order to get a serial number. If you've already downloaded the patch and the problem is in your version of Clooz, download again because you may have downloaded before I fixed the problem.
