    1. [Clooz] Printed manual vs. downloaded manual
    2. Frank G. Higgins
    3. Has anyone compared the two THOROUGHLY? I'm just curious. I've got both and started to compare. I ran out of patience and had not found a single word different. BUT, the download is colored. The printed is black and white and small illustrations lack detail. I don't want to mark up the new, printed manual but do want to use the download as a working manual, but want it as up tod date as the printed one. -- frank g. higgins [email protected]

    1. [Clooz] Clooz and Access 2000 vs Access 97
    2. I had a new hard drive installed today and discovered that Gateway had installed Office 2000 instead of Office 97. I have been using Clooz with Access 97. Can anyone tell me the differences between Acess 97 and 2000? Will I run into problems with Clooz if I use Acess 2000? Do I have to get another version of Clooz? I currently have Clooz 1.2, which I bought in May 2000. I want to get the CD update but waited until I got my new hard drive. Thank you for your help, Lillian Cain

    1. [Clooz] Source List/Repository problem
    2. Patrick Dunphy
    3. I just installed Clooz v1.22 from the upgrade disk I purchased from Ancestor Detective. From the hub, when I open the View/Edit Sources window, all that is displayed are Repositories. And they repeat over and over. When I click on the Repository name, I'm taken to the Source edit screen. I think this is a glitch. I've checked the version number in the About window, and it's 1.22. In looking at prior posts to this list, this problem has been discussed but the solution was installing the patch. Since I went directly to v1.22 from v1.1, I shouldn't need the patch. I even did a complete uninstall, deleted Clooz folder, and reinstalled. The Source window still displays Repositories Liz, any suggestions? Pat Dunphy

    3. A computer crash forced a rebuild of Windows 2000 system. Starting with the CD-ROM of Clooz 1.2, can you please advise the most direct route to reinstall the latest Clooz onto an Access 2000 system. I presume I start with the CD-ROM and apply some patches? Thanks muchly for the help... Gerry Raine

    1. [Clooz] a problem with msaccess
    2. Kay Allen Groves
    3. For the last several weeks whenever I click to either minimize the window or exit the program -- I have a stand alone version -- a small Mcaccess message window pops up with "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut sown. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor...MSACCESS caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL 32.DLL at 0157: bff 99dbd. Registers...." This latest time I just opened the program long enough to open one of my marriage files in the preview window to see some data. I had planned to add some entries a few minutes later so wanted to keep clooz open - minimized - which saves me a lot of time compared to how much longer it takes to open it. Can someone help solve this problem - and mystery - for me? Thanks in advance for your help. -kay thesarge

    3. David, do you have the 1.22 patch installed? This problem was corrected in this patch. Make sure you've got the patch installed by going to Help/About Clooz and check the version number. I note that I've given you the serial number for the patch already. 1. [Clooz] Error 3906
    2. Patrick Dunphy
    3. I just installed Clooz on a new hard drive and copied a backup of my data file to the new HD. When I open the data file I get an error message. "Error 3906 No unique index for the reference field in primary table. mdlutility:fnaddrel" When I copied data from my old HD to Zip, I used Explorer to copy the data. I didn't make an archive copy to save. The data seems to load ok, but I haven't tried to add or edit anything yet. Is the error indicative of a problem I need to be concerned about?

    3. Yes, you need a different serial number for the Access 2000 download than you do for the stand-alone or Access 97 versions. That's why I ask people to tell me which version they're downloading. At 09:47 PM 2/8/01 -0800, gfree wrote: >After having computer problems I had to reload Clooz. 1. [Clooz] Several surnames on same document
    2. Stephen Speltz
    3. The primary objective of Clooz is to record and locate the document when you need it. So, the document you mention with many surnames on it should have just one personal file #. All the surnames on that one document should be linked to the personal file # given to the document. Then at any time, a list of all the many documents in your cabinet file showing a particular surname can be viewed by clicking the appropriate icon in the "peoples" window. Hope this helps. 1. Re: [Clooz] Several surnames on same document
    2. Bob & Julie Clark
    3. The purpose of the personal file number is to make a document easier to find, in other words, you know that document M0034 is right after M0035. If you give a document two different file numbers, then you will have to make two copies and store them in two different places, since obviously one physical document can't be in two places at the same time. As the Clooz manual says, DO NOT file documents by surname, because then you have to have DUPLICATES (exact wording and obnoxious capitals mine). So, if you are looking for the right answer in Clooz philosophy terms, you should give a document one id, and then link the various people to it.

The serial number is on a white label on the shrinkwrap. Perhaps you threw that away without realizing it. I answered your e-mail this morning. I was in Dallas from Thursday-Sunday for a GenTech conference. I'm the only person in my company and I didn't get a chance to check my e-mail while I was gone. The computer does not think Clooz is installed as you can't install it without the serial number. When I answered you, I told you that you need the serial number that is on the shrinkwrap. If you threw it away and can't retrieve it, I'll need you to register your software with me so I can give you a new serial number. You didn't include your name in the e-mail, so I can't check to see if you bought it from me. If you didn't, you can fax your receipt to me at 734-354-6442 and then I can give you a new serial number. I use the Personal File # to tell me where I have physically filed the document and I link all the names mentioned in the document to that same Personal File #. For example, in a Directory where I find several names of interest, I would assign a Personal File # of something like "Corson #12-Dir" and link all the names I want to keep track of to that same File #. That tells me that I filed the copy of the directory pages with my ancestor #12. If I ask for a report on any of those other individuals, I will find a reference to them appearing in the directory filed with my ancestor #12. Your Personal File # can be any unique ID number that you want, based on your filing system. Hope this helps.....Susan

    3. Make sure that you are selecting the right database. If you have the wrong path to the database, Clooz will just create a new database with the same name and it will be empty. Copy your database over from your zip disk and put it where you want it to be. In Clooz, click on the open folder icon on the Select or Create a Database screen. Change folders to where you stored the file and once you find that file, double click on it and click Select. Your data should be there, if there's data in the file.
