Thanks for your response to my question on deleting path names. I tried what you suggested and have additional questions. your response You delete these path names using Edit Lists. This is discussed on pages 42 and 43 of the manual, with an example for deleting path names. In this case, you'd select Databases as the choice to edit. -my new question/comment pages 42-43 of the manual I printed and manual I get when I open it from the program don't have an example of deleting the path name; where can I get a more current manual? (I'm using 1.2) I tried following the instructions on archiving and didn't see that it did anything about deleting path name. When I tried archiving it asked only about the database I was in, not the other pathnames/databases that I wanted to get rid of. So I next tried to do it from the edit list screen and click on databases I highlighted and backspaced over the database pathname. Now I have blank spaces when I open the database list with the database I want at the bottom of the list with blank lines above it. When I arrow through the databases in the edit lists/databases list #1-3 are blank, #4 is the database I want. During this process the sample database disappeared from the list even though I didn't want to delete it's pathname. Clearly I'm not understanding something here. Help please. (I'm using 1.2) There is a current manual on the Clooz Web site that you can download at http://www.clooz.com/download.htm. You can also buy a printed version from the Clooz web site. > > I tried following the instructions on archiving and didn't see that it did > anything about deleting path name. Archiving and deleting database paths are two separate and distinct functions. Archiving backs up your database so you have another copy of it. Deleting the database path is discussed in the manual, as I've already indicated. > > So I next tried to do it from the edit list screen and click on databases > I highlighted and backspaced over the database pathname. You don't delete by doing what you've done. You delete by highlighting the box to the left of the path you want to delete and then hitting your delete key. This is a temporary e-mail address. The surname and given > name could be transferred from the initial screen. This is by design. The name fields in the detail screen are there for you to record the people's names as they actually appear in documents, not how you know them or have them recorded in your genealogy program. If the program did this for you, it wouldn't be accurately recording names. This is where you record misspellings and maiden or married names, etc. The program design will not change in this regard. Sorry, but I don't recall you reporting this. However, in the Clooz manual there are specific instructions and the manual tells people not to use commas, for example, to separate Jr. and Sr. from a name. It also says to eliminate quotation marks. It's impossible to account for every situation that someone will use to enter data into a genealogy program. For 99 percent of the people, the Legacy import works fine. For those it doesn't work fine for, I'm here with free customer technical support to help. Hi all, I have just started using Clooz and I do like it. However, I attempted to import from Family Tree Maker and all it did was tell me that the import function was not successful. It didn't tell me what the problem was so I don't know what to do differently. I'm not sure if it is something I'm doing wrong or if the program still thinks I'm using the Clooz Demo version even though I've paid for the download version(and followed all the steps for installing it). Has anyone else had this same problem? So, for now, I'm inputting individuals in a little at a time from one of my small databases. I wish there was a lot simpler way to input people into the Clooz program. - Sue -
To delete the census, open it from the Census Selection Screen and click on the red X on the toolbar and confirm the deletion. Hi Folks, I have been considering the aquisition of "Clooz" however initial efforts suggest that little updating of resources , News Sheets etc in the past 12 Months... Does this hint that the "System" is now redundant... Opinions please... A source is where you obtained the information from. It's format is bibliographic, to fit the format for books. For a death certificate, you'd just use the fields that you need, to record where you obtained the death certificate from (i.e. the clerk of court's office). This is not duplicate information asked for on the document template. > > I linked four people to the document I entered. > When I do a print preview from the document screen that shows all four of > those people, none of the people are shown in the print preview. You click on the details button next to each person's name that you've linked and put in the details about that person in that document. This is discussed in the Clooz Manual and in the video. > > How do I delete old/bad path names that show up on the initial Clooz screen > (select or create database)? Yes, you can open your database in Access 2000 and edit the data there if you wish. Are you having a problem with it? On Sat, 01 September 2001, "Peggy Hooper" wrote: > > Im a little confused. Clooz is alive and well. I'm getting close to releasing a new patch (version 1.23), as readers in this message list are aware. I'm a one-person company and can't keep up with everything, so I don't write many newsletters any more. The web site is current, though. Im a little confused. Should I be able to edit my data through Access 2000? Peggy Hooper My home page http://www.myroots.net/ mailto:[email protected]
Hi. I am entering data collected for some years prior to using Clooz -- big catch-up operation. Where I collected neighbors in the census (alas, didn't start doing this at the outset), I enter them in the notes field. The households whose neighbors I noted are usually those where I am trying to identify their relatives. If the neighbors are known family, I enter them as individuals. I would say it is also a function of how many people I have to enter in a given census report. For some of them the report runs to 4, 5, 6 pages -- likely to run out of patience there before I get to the neighbors! Have not dealt with neighbors at all in city directories. I spent hours today on Clooz importing my database from Legacy and experimenting with entering sources, documents, and then linking people to the documents. I read and reread the manual and used the help (F1) and haven't been able to find the answers to these questions. I am using Clooz 1.22. What's the difference between a source and a document? I entered a death certificate as a document and then was surprised to see that much of the same information was needed on the source screen. I linked four people to the document I entered. When I do a print preview from the document screen that shows all four of those people, none of the people are shown in the print preview. Their IDs are there but no other information. When I print the report from the top drop down menu, (Clooz Documents report), the name and date fields don't print (Event, ID, and File# do print) How do I delete old/bad path names that show up on the initial Clooz screen (select or create database)? These resulted from errors I made when I tried to install my first database. On the initial Clooz screen (select or create database) is there a way for my database to come up first instead of the sample.mdb so I don't have to do the extra clicking to select the one I want? Thanks for any assistance you can give me. JH Todd
Query -- does anyone out there routinely enter the names of near neighbors when recording city directory or census data? If so, do you add them in the remarks box or as individuals? Thanks. Bob Keener
Hi Warren thanks for the reply. I remembered later I should have added that this particular birth certificate was issued when Clyde was 58 years old and based on the Bible record of his sister. Also the 1910 census he is listed as Joseph C. Just because someone is called something, even all of one's life, does not make that their name legally. You can call yourself anything you want, but I believe that your "real" name is that which you were born with and is on your birth certificate--unless, of course, you have it legally changed somewhere along the way in a court of law. You use the remarks section to record items for that person that there are no fields for in the template, or to make notes to yourself. Each document details screen pertains to one person only. Entering marriage certificates and after linking the two individuals: 1. Do you enter the name (s) as shown on the certificate (this would also apply to DCs and BCs) or the persons real and full given name? 2. In the remarks section should you enter the same information for both parties? Example: For my father-in-law every document, BC, DC, SSN, etc. state his name as Clyde C. Hooper and this is the way he signed his name for anything his whole life. I do know his name is Joseph Clyde Hooper but hardly anyone knows this. The one exception to the name variation is the marriage certificate which happens to say Joe Clyde Hooper. Peggy Hooper My home page http://www.myroots.net/ mailto:[email protected]
