    3. Hello Jenni, Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Clooz will accept both 'Stray' and 'Unrel' in the Alternate ID # field very nicely. I still have to add them to the Clooz People list of course. 3. Hello Vince, My genealogical prog. automatically assigns a unique ID number to everyone I put in it. Clooz allows the use of these numbers which is enormously helpful. I can also print out a 'people' list from my gen prog. which includes the ID numbers and vlital dates so that when I'm entering doc. details into Clooz, I can tell immediately without a lot of digging which of four John Wrights or five Frederick Trouts it might concern. For people who are in documents such as census returns who are not in my gen prog. I classify in Clooz as Stray if I haven't yet proved that the person is mine and Unrel (for unrelated) if I know they never will be included in my family tree. That eliminates the need for adding an additional ID number.. What do others do, I wonder? 3. Hi - - I, too, have a puzzlement about how to record data for folks who are not in my line. I have 4 data bases with lots of folks in them. Without going into lots of research I do not know which Joseph Correll, or Magdalena Correll to which I should attach a document. Share brainstorms with me, too. 1. Re: [Clooz] Installing 1.23 Patch
    2. The installation would have deleted any files that you don't need. Don't delete anything that's there now. The Clooz program file is called clooz.mde. 3. Cathy, I know the list hasn't had much activity lately, except dealing with the latest update. I'm sure it's related to the tragedy in New York that still continues to overwhelm many. I found your message intriguing, not because I'm involved in any surname association to the degree that you seem to be, but because you further expanded my awareness of the potential of this product. I would imagine that it could work well for the very purpose you mention, although I would also think it would require a massive amount of cross-matching and creating of the database of individuals to start. Perhaps not, and I hope Liz or others would brainstorm this idea in the list itself. I hope too that you will keep us all apprised of the methodology you adopt to pursue this potential for the program. The thought processes you apply will undoubtedly be useful for other applications that arise in the future. Wish I could help you more, Marianne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine H Lippert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 8:56 PM Subject: [Clooz] Clooz for a surname organization > Has anyone used Clooz to organize the various pieces of paper and > documents accumulated by a surname society or family group organization? > > I have a copy of Clooz, but haven't found the time to use it with my own > database yet, so I don't have any idea how it might work as above. > > The Lokrig Family Association has several file drawers of miscellaneous > documents and would like to sort the information sensibly and make it > available electronically. Censuses are entered into the census template; therefore the need for the All Censuses report. > > I can't find the report shown in the manual "Select Person Report with All > Documents". Where is it on the menus? Click on Reports, then People, then Select Person. It will take you to the People selection screen. You then select a person and click on the Print Preview button. You're then prompted whether you want to view the person with all documents or just with that person's primary documents. > > Can Clooz be used to document searches with negative results (like a > research log)? The "All Documents" report has no census documents. Why not? I can't find the report shown in the manual "Select Person Report with All Documents". Where is it on the menus? 1. Re: [Clooz] New Patch
    2. Regarding the missing digit on the census buttons, we've discovered it's a difference in graphic cards. I never could have predicted this as I tried the patch on several machines and the buttons looked fine. I have the same settings on my machine as several of the people that supplied me with information, who can't see that last digit. I can easily see the digit. So, I apologize for this inconvenience. The next version will correct the problem. I'm happy that it's at least not a problem with the functioning of the program. On Sat, 15 September 2001, "Helen E. 3. Hi. I am a brand new user of Clooz. I have practiced entering several types of transactions, have upgraded to Ver 1.23, and just ordered the video. Is there any advice you would give me, e.g. things you have set up differently now if you had known __________ when you started? Thanks, Jenni Ford PS This is also my first time as a subscriber of a mail list. I am sure if I am breaking protocol some one will let me know...

    1. Re: [Clooz] Re: Clooz-D Digest V01 #108
    2. John
    3. Bruce, I must agree with Liz on this point. The majority of documents I have added to Clooz do not show the full or proper name of the individual concerned. Many census records list the same individual with diferent names on each census - sometimes first name only, sometimes middle name, sometimes a misspelled name. I, for one, would not want this feature changed. 1. [Clooz] Photo & Document Details
    2. Thanks for the info on photo and document details. I experimented with that today. A question - I open photos; select a photo; then there's a list that shows the linked people. When I click on details I get another screen. Why aren't/can't the surname and name and description be automatically transferred from the list of linked people by the program? This information is likely to be exactly the same as on the first screen (showing linked people). It seems like a lot of extra effort to have to rekey all that information. If there's a programming reason it can't be done. could the report get its data from the linked screen and then the data would show up on the report without someone having to rekey it into the individual detail screens? I have the same general question for document details. The surname and given name could be transferred from the initial screen. Perhaps there's a way to do this and I'm missing it.
