According to a 5 Oct 1938 *Believe It or Not* by Robert L. Ripley, the correct spelling of the name of the city of Cleveland is indeed Cleaveland, named in honor of its founder, Moses Cleaveland. The change in spelling was caused by the fact that the *A* in the heading of the *Cleaveland Herald* became battered and dropped out.
