Thank you to everyone who has inquired about making memorial donations in Johnny's name. We apologize for the delay in choosing a recipient, but we wanted to make sure it was something that reflected Johnny's love of sportsmanship, fair play, hard work and dedication. With those aspects in mind, we've chosen to set up a memorial scholarship for student athletes at Olney High School, Johnny's alma mater. It will be awarded annually to the student who shows the heart and hustle Johnny portrayed as a student athlete and that he so admired and respected in others. Those of you wishing to make donations to the scholarship may send them to: Jon Cleveland Rast Memorial Scholarship First National Bank of Olney P.O. Hello Listers, Could someone please forward information regarding a Katharine M. NIHEN as mentioned in the books "Genealogy of Cleveland and Cleaveland Families", by Edm. James Cleveland, et al., Hartford, CT, 1899? I do not have these 3 volumes. I just have the info printed on an Ancestry.com page. My surname is NIHEN and this looks like a new line! Any help or direction is appreciated. Thanks, Joe Nihen Pennsylvania Researching: NIHEN/NIHAN
Can anyone help this bunch of Cleavelands?? We don't have dates and places, but maybe you recognize the names? Thanks all, Teri ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: "Gary and Kimberly Cleaveland" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Cleaveland Name Date sent: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 17:57:39 -0800 Sir, My name is Gary Eugene Cleaveland. While I was searching the web for the family name, of course your name came up. I am the son of Gary Spencer Cleaveland. His father was Gordon Eugene Cleaveland. Married to Dorothy Lucille Younce. If you happen to come across these names in your wonderful research would you be willing to please pass the information along. Both of my grandparents passed away before I was old enough to care about the family origins. I am sure we are some how related. There aren't very many of us that still use the old spelling. I am afraid that I wrote in haste last night. The bible that I wrote about belonging to a Cleveland family was on the web, not in my possession. I hoped that someone on this list might recognize the names and claim it. I only wanted to bring it to the lists attention. I am sorry if I have been confusing. The original message is in the "Missing Links" newsletter that I (email) subscribe to. The email that I posted yesterday is what Kimberly posted to the newsletter. Kimberly is the one to contact for this bible if it is your family. I read this in the Missing Links list that I subscribe to and thought I should post it to the this list. The email to contact is at the end of the paragraph. I found an old photo album at an antique store in Vermont and had to buy it because I couldn't bear for it to be thrown away and all of those precious pictures to be lost. The pictures (all those old ones on heavy cards) have no names written on them, but there are a few "In memory of" cards with information on them and some newspaper clippings in the back about a CLEVELAND family. From the information in the album and what I have found in my research so far, Charles A. CLEVELAND was a Civil War veteran from Morristown, Vermont, Pvt. VT Inf 06. He married Louisa Ann HARRIS, daughter of Alfred and Hannah HARRIS of Broome, Canada, on March 28, 1865. They had 11 children who were all still living in 1935: Mrs. Beulah BEARD, Mrs. Evelyn CHARLES, Mrs. Myrtie KIDDER, Miss Mabel CLEVELAND, Mrs. Ethel FOWLER, George CLEVELAND, Fred C. CLEVELAND, Henry H. CLEVELAND, Mrs. Mattie MORES, Mrs. Hattie BAKER, and Elmer CLEVELAND. They moved to Manchester, New Hampshire in 1885 from Hyde Park, Vermont. Charles CLEVELAND (the Civil War veteran) died November 14, 1900. Other names mentioned in the album include: Mrs. Elbridge PEASLEE of Henniker (72), Mrs. Leonard FOOTE of North Weare (49), and Mrs. Raymond THOMPSON (25), mentioned in a 1931 newspaper clipping from Manchester, New Hampshire. Many of the photos in the album were taken by W. R. CALL (913 Elm Street in one and 895 Elm Street in another) in Manchester and Colby 68 Opera Block Hanover Street) in Manchester. I guess it is about time to see if there are any new comers who haven't heard my previous whimpers when trying to find Jesse Cleveland's parents and/or siblings. My GGG Grandfather Jesse Cleveland was earliest seen (by me) in 1850 in the Franklin County lllinois. There are a few other Clevelands in that area ... namely Mahala and Andrew J. who were about the same age but nothing to prove a connection. Jesse had a daughter he name Mahala too. I haven't paid too much attention to Andrew other than finding a bit about him in the National Archive as a Blackhawk War soldier. I have a very poorly designed web page listing the contents of Jesse Blackhawk War pension file at : http://members.aol.com/steffennw/JCCpensionfile.html If you happend to get there and look at Item 8 you might notice that Jesse got his pension by a Special Act of Congress. It was a higher than normal pension for serving less than the usual minimum time during the Blackhawk war. I have been wondering if he might have had some "interesting" pictures of one of our illustrious politicians a yore. Maybe somethings never change....:-) Take care, Norm P.S. Hi John....:-) P.P.S.
