Rootsweb has advised us that as of March 2nd, this rootsweb list will no longer be available to be posted to. Because of this, a NEW list has been created at groups.io, and you should have received an invitation to join that group. If not, never fear, you can join the group by going to https://groups.io/g/cleveland (note the different spelling from Cleaveland to Cleveland). After joining the new group, please consider posting a rollcall - i.e. tell us a bit about yourself and your cleveland line. Thanks.

Hello List members, My name is Ian Marr and I have been the list administrator for some time. However, due to mounting health problems, I am forced to give up this role. I have completed the task required to "orphan" the list, so it is now available for any of you to take the reins, so to speak. If you would like to become the administrator for this list, simply follow the steps details below: 1. Go to http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ 2. Enter the list name in the "Find a Mailing List" box and click on FIND 3. A list of potential matches will be displayed (left hand side of page). Click on the name you entered in 2. above 4. Details for the list will then be displayed 5. At the bottom of this page, it should say "This list is adoptable". If not, try again later (or it may already have been adopted). 6. If it does invite adoption, click on the "Visit the Mailing List Request Form" link 7. On the next page click on "Request a Mailing List - New or Adoption" 8. Complete the details and submit the form. You will receive a confirmation e-mail when the necessary behind the scenes actions have been completed. You may then access the list as administrator, using your e-mail address and password specified in 8. above and make whatever changes you wish to the way the list operates. Hi List Members, Please ignore ALL messages that come to the List with no subject and containing just a web address in the body of the message. This is almost always a sign that the originating e-mail address has been hijacked. There is little any List Administrator can do about them, as the message eminates from a subscribed address. I have placed that address on moderation, so will be able to intercept any further spurious messages. For the best answer, see my site (rgcle.com) and follow the Moses trail to the supporting documentation. I suggest this because you may be interested in other sources. The short answer is <http://www.rgcle.com/SS/s1.htm#s35>http://www.rgcle.com/SS/s1.htm#s35 The VERY shortest answer is "[S35] Edmund Janes Cleveland The Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families, Three volumes, (n.p.: Case, Lockwood and Brainerd, Hartford, Connecticut, 1899, 1899). Hereinafter cited as 1899 Cleveland Genealogy." Dick At 4/21/2011 02:24 PM, Ethel craven-sweet wrote: >Do you have the title of the book? I'm taking over doing the family tree from my father. Here is our lineage from when my father looked through the Genealogy of Cleveland... book, and from a letter from an unknown "Aunt Jennie" who wrote a letter to my grandfather in 1924 from Oregon. The letter mentioned she had a brother, Homer. Moses Enoch Cleveland m. Elizabeth Counce Jonathan Cleveland m. Lydia Lamson Joseph Cleveland m. Dorothea Cragin Benjamin Cleveland m. Lydia Young Benjamin Cleveland Jr. m. Octavia Wentworth Albion Cleveland m. Alwilda Osborne James Cleveland m. Mary Elizabeth Wall Gustav Lindstrom m. Margaret Cleveland That's up to my grandparents. Jonathan and Joseph are the most elusive with documentation. Anything you can share would be appreciated. I went through most of the archived posts, and didn't see anyone else descended from Enoch. Any lurkers out there? Kara:)
LaNeta, There is a genealogy of the early Cleveland family in Yorkshire in the first volume of the three volume set of "The Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families". The Cleveland brothers who compiled the genealogy tell of the first documented Cleveland, Thorkil de Cliveland, of Yorkshire, in 1066. The name has been written in several different ways over many past years, but when Moses signed his name upon his arrival in this country he spelled it "Cleveland". I should imagine a search for these volumes will not be difficult. They were published in 1899. Good luck in your search! Helen MacKain (g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grand daughter of Moses and Ann)
I am a 10th generation descendant of Moses Cleveland and Ruth Norton but would like to go back farther than 1624 when I believe Moses was born in Ipswich, England. My next descendants are as follows: Moses Cleveland and Ruth Norton John Cleveland and Martha Simmons Benjamin Cleveland and Bethia Whitney (3rd wife?) Joseph Cleveland and Content Read Benjamin Cleveland and Betsey Elizabeth Stockwell Emily Cleveland and Benjamin Davis Julia Davis and John C. Pratt Phoebe Amelia Pratt and Charles Bennett Henry Bennett and Louise DeMarsh LaNeta Bennett and Douglas Gallagher (me) Is Cleaveland the same family, just a different spelling? LaNeta Gallagher
Those 3 books you mention have LOTS of errors in them. I would be careful and confirm everything you use out of them. In a message dated 2/6/2010 4:26:18 P.M.
