Claypool was born in 1789 in Hampshire County and studied medicine with an Uncle in Indiana. He graduated from the University of Lexington, Kentucky and settled near St. Louis later moving to Belleview, St. Clair County. He was one of the appraisers of the estate of Elizabeth Swaggart, 15 September 1836, the mother of Caty Swaggart Vanorsdal.392 The family left the area in 1836 moving to Ft. Madison, Lee County, Iowa where John C. Claypool helped establish and later became the Warden at the Iowa State Prison. [source: The History of Lee County, Iowa, Containing a History of its Cities, Towns, etc. (Chicago, Western His. Co., 1879), 854.] Notice the difference in the birth dates for John. The above article was enclosed in the Biography of his son I believe. If Blondius was born in 1762 and John C. in 1789 she would have been about age 20 at that date. 1800 seems to late as a birth date of John, as Catherine, his sister was probably just married and had her first child in 1802 or so. But the birth of John gives us a starting point in placing the other children. Blondius, the daughter of Nathaniel Claypool and his wife Sarah, was born in 1762. After the death of her husband she apparently moved in with her son John and traveled to Lee County, Iowa with him. She died there about 1846 and is buried in the Claypoole Family Cemetery, Ft. Madions, Iowa. Her inscription reads: "Blondenah Kuykendall Claypoole, In her 84th year, daughter of Nathaniel, granddaughter of Jacob, sister to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Katherine and Sarah, wife of Jeremiah Claypool married 14 May 1781, Hampshire County, Virginia." George Claypool born 1782 in Hampshire County Virginia, died 16 October, 1866, perhaps her son, is also buried in the Claypoole Family Cemetery and other family members. [Source: find a Grave] And here is yet another interesting piece of information, this from St. Clair County Circuit Court Case 2679, Peter Kuykendall v. Simon Vanorsdal et al. Capius Debt, 1810, IRAD, "On the back of said writ is the following: to wit." This is an action founded on a note under seal and bail is required signed John Johnson Att for the Plaintiff, and on which said write is the following return, to wit:'Execution on both, but could not commit Simon Vanorsdal to the Jail, he being a Rangerin the United States Service. Jeremiah Claypool running at large for want of a Jail. dated 2 May 1814." Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
