My comment is"far-fetched." My great-grandfather, cir.1840-1873, Thomas Clarke's sister, Elizabeth Clarke It's a brick wall. married a James Farmer, Orange Irishman. James owned a livery stbale in New York City in the late 1900's. She brought up her niece, Catherine/Lillian Clarke after Thomas' death. I think this Clarke family was in the United States by 1825. It may be that some members of that family settled in Maryland.
