Donna, When you mentioned Thomas Clarke was born Thorne, I wondered if there might be a connection, however the birthdate seemed to be too late for that possibility. You have, however, mentioned Baptist Clark, who is connected with a Clark line I'm working on. I need for you to run back through your Clark line, including dates, for me. There was a Baptist Clark in Randolph County, NC, who we know was related to Samuel Clark who died in Randolph County on 6 Sep 1783. (Note to list: Many have identified his wife as Elizabeth Bennett, however there is proof that the Samuel Clark of Burlington, NJ, who married Elizabeth Bennett is not this Samuel Clark.) We do not know the identity of the wife of Samuel Clark, however there is a close relationship with Samuel's neighbor, Edward Thornborough (sound familiar?). Both of these men were plantation owners; Samuel was a slave owner and a devout Presbyterian. His sons were as follows: Thomas b. abt. 1743 York Co, PA m. Sarah Clark Edward b. abt. 1745 York Co, PA m. Rachel Brattain Samuel E. b. Oct 1748 York Co, PA George b. 22 Jun 1749 York Co, PA William b. 1753 York Co, PA m. Eleanor Dougan Joseph b. abt. 1756 John b. 1759 Randolph Co NC m. Mary Spencer (possibly) a daughter b. abt. 1761 Thomas Clark died on or about 11 Dec 1787 Randolph Co, NC (per noncupative will). (Not to be confused with Thomas Clark who died 25 Dec 1792.) The indications are that Samuel was the only one old enough to be considered an adult. He and his uncle Edward Clark were co-executors of the will. Thomas Sr. had the following children: Samuel Thomas Jr. Catherine m. William Webster Hannah d. unmarried Jane m. John Hilton; Hezekiah Gardner, Sr. Sarah m. Paul Bratton (nephew of Rachel Brattain) I am in the process of trying to determine if Samuel was, in fact, my husband's ancestor Samuel Clark who came to Wayne County, KY, ca. 1807. Paul & Sarah Bratton migrated to western Tennessee; their children migrated to Arkansas. I do not know where Thomas Jr. went. Going back to Baptist Clark, Dr. Thomas Hamm has found Baptist Clark in the household of the elder Samuel Clark in early NC records. This would appear to indicate that Baptist Clark was closely related to Samuel Clark. Baptist Clark may be found in early Randolph Co, NC, records. I have also found a Baptist Clark in early Kentucky records who may be the same one; however at the time I had no idea there might be a connection, and have not kept that information. What I saw was that Baptist Clark was murdered and that his wife and children moved to Arkansas. Oh, and one more thing, there were at least two men by the name of Baptist Clark, one older and one younger. Please note that I am still very new to researching this line, as well, and above mentioned dates are subject to correction.
