    1. [CLARKE] Samuel & Thomas Clark, Guilford/Randolph NC, mid 1700s - early 1800s

    3. Dear Cousins: I posted an e-mail earlier today that seems to have been lost in cyberspace. Please forgive me if this turns out to be a duplicate. I have reasons to believe, because of certain Randolph Co, NC, deeds and the Will of Thomas Clark (s/o Samuel Clark of Guilford/Randolph Co, NC) that my Samuel Clark Sr. may have been the son of Thomas Clark. According to the Will of Thomas Sr., he had two sons, Samuel & Thomas. 150 acres were granted to Samuel and remaining property was to be divided among the 4 daughters of Thomas (Sr.)--Catherine, Hannah, Jane & Sarah. So far, all family trees containing the children of Thomas that I have found on Rootsweb show no issue for Thomas Jr. or Samuel. Additionally, I am told that Thomas Sr.'s father Samuel Clark had seven sons & perhaps one daughter. Please note that the following is is what I believe to be proven. There is conflicting information that states the wife of the elder Samuel Clark was Elizabeth Bennett. This has been soundly disproven. Likewise, the wife of Thomas Clark has only recently come to light in a deed that was found in Bedford county, TN: 1 Samuel CLARK d: 06 Sep 1783 in Asheboro, Randolph Co, NC ....... 2 Thomas CLARK b: Abt. 1743 York Co, PA d: 11 Dec 1787 in Randolph Co, NC ........... +Sarah CLARK d: Bef. 20 Sep 1808 in Randolph Co, NC ....... 2 Edward CLARK b: Abt. 1745 York Co, PA ....... 2 Samuel E. CLARK b: Oct 1748 Randolph Co, NC d: 30 Oct 1817 ........... +Elizabeth MORGAN ....... *2nd Wife of Samuel E. CLARK: ........... +Rachel BRATTAIN b: 03 May 1752 Randolph Co, NC m: 13 Nov 1771 in Guilford Co, NC d: 24 Oct 1797 ....... 2 George CLARK b: 22 Jun 1749 York Co, PA ....... 2 William CLARK b: 1753 York Co, PA d: 21 Jul 1836 in Marlboro, Randolph Co, NC ........... +Eleanor DOUGAN b: 05 Feb 1759 Lancaster Co, PA d: 05 Jun 1839 in Randolph Co, NC ....... 2 Joseph CLARK b: Abt. 1756 d: Bef. 1793 in Randolph Co, NC ....... 2 John CLARK b: 07 Jun 1759 Randolph Co, NC d: 06 Feb 1816 in VA ........... +Mary SPENCER ....... 2 Daughter CLARK b: Abt. 1761 The senior Samuel Clark was a devout Presbyterian, however, his son William became a Quaker after the Revolutionary War. There were a number of Clarks who married Quakers, resulting in the Quaker spouse marrying out of unity. Related families were THORNBOROUGH/THORNBERRY, BRATTON/BRATTAIN, DOUGAN. Also possibly connected were the BELL, VICKERY & WALL families. There is a Samuel Clark b. 1769 who is buried in Randolph County, NC. In order to prove or disprove that my Samuel Clark b. ca. 1770 was the son of Thomas Clark and Sarah Clark, I must prove or disprove the identity of this 2nd Samuel Clark buried in Randolph County. Any and all information that may aid in this endeavor would be very much appreciated. My Samuel Clark Sr. arrived in Wayne County, Kentucky, about 1807, along with the brothers Francis and William BELL of Randolph County, NC. As for the remaining children of Samuel Clark, Joseph is said to have died in Randolph County. Edward migrated to Tennessee. He MAY have died in Georgia--I have not seen any documentation to that effect. William migrated to Indiana. Anyone interesting in taking a look at my Samuel Clark Sr. of Wayne County, KY, may find him on my My WorldConnect database, The Clarks of Otter Creek and Related Families, at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=gmcflc&I11.x=42&I11.y=6 I would very much like to hear from anyone working these family lines.
