Hello, This is not the case in the USA. To apply for a birth cert. here, you must provide the parents names. Without the parents names, you get no b.c. for the person. USA. --- If you apply for your Grandfathers birth Certificate it will show his Parents names who can then be checked on 1901 census on line and 1881 census on LDS website. That would be the same in the Uk and Australia, as without the parents names you run the risk of getting the incoreect birth certificate.
