I also have a Welcome CLARKE in my line (Welcome Arnold Clarke, s/o Henry Clarke and Katherine Pendleton). Henry and Katherine lived in Westerly, RI.. However my Welcome Clarke was supposedly born in Stonington, CT. I show him as moving to Cleveland, Ohio eventually, but I think the traditional routes I have seen repeatedly in my line were either from RI through New Jersey or New York, through PA, to what is now WV and then to Ohio. Are your Welcome and Aaron related, or are they married? I have a Clarke line and a Clark line. Maybe someday I will be able to tear down the brick wall beyond my John Clark, according to the census (according to his son) he was born in New Jersey. John Clark md. Margaret, born in Virginia around 1805. Their only son that I know of is Jesse Clark, b. 1823, probably in (West) Virginia. Margaret's headstone says "wife of John Clark" or I wouldn't know that much. I have never found Jesse, Margaret and John Clark all on one census together. Any suggestions from anyone (solutions are welcome, too) would be greatly appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Capp255@cs.com> To: <CLARKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 18, 2005 11:56 AM Subject: Re: [Clarke-Clark] JOSEPH & JEMIMA CLARKE/CLARK > My CLARK also came from Providence, Rhode Island. > Welcome CLARK,Aaron CLARK,moved to Utica NY.in the 1770. > > Cheri, this is so strange as these are the right names but wrong > >> date and location for my Great-Aunt Elizabeth Clarke/Clark as she was >> born in Jefferson County N.Y. in 1809 but the family came from >> Providence, Rhode Island. >> >> I think I see where the trouble may be as taking a second look I see >> Joseph first married Elizabeth Eaton their 3rd child was Elizabeth born >> 05 Jan 1778 in R.I. Hi Cheri, Do you have the Death Certificate on Margaret "?" CLARK? What were the dates for her on the Headstone? Did she actually die in VA or WVA? Or, was she just buried there? Is John CLARK buried in WVA also? Did John predecease his wife Margaret? Any chance that they could have been born elsewhere....like Scotland..and perhaps spent some later years in Canada? I have a page from the 1871 Ontario, Canada Census with a Widow, Margaret CLARK, age 65 then, est: b: ca1806 in Scotland. It appears that there is one Son: James, 22 yrs and possibly two daus: Annabella m: to ?John Hay or Nay; and possibly: Elizabeth who may have married a Mr Lushman. All were born in Scotland except John HAY or NAY. Since, Jesse, the only known Son, was born in 1823, and probably the first born, do you have the names of other Children? What census were they noted on with their Parents: John & Margaret Clark? Perhaps some ideas here. I have the above 1871 Ont. Can. Census page as I am still seeking my Alexander Clark, b:ca 1844, Scotland 's Parents and emigration data. Know that he was in Lincoln Co. Ontario, Can. in 1871 or 1872 with Mary Boyd, b:Oct 1850..And, they had a dau: Mary Clark b: 10 Oct 1872 in Lincoln Co. Ont. Can. Later, in Feb 1877, they had a Son: my Grandfather: William Alexander Clark; and probably had a Son John Clark in ca1879. Probably in April 1879, this family emigrated from Ontario, Can and went to Attleboro, Bristol Co. MASS. Mary BOYD's Parents: John BOYD and wife Mary GUTHRIE along with 4 of their children went to Lincoln, Providence Co. RI. Both of these Families appeared on the 1880 Censuses respectively. Each family may have had more children after 1880. Perhaps there were marriages with Surnames of ADAMS & WILSON?? Any connections with these names? Good luck..& thanks for posting.
