Brinton was father of Frances Ann Brinton bc1812 MS. Frances Ann marr. Inga Dozier C. Bridger in 1832, Claiborne Co., MS. John E.C. Brinton's estate was admn. (1833) by Frances Brinton and James A. Hutchinson. I have copy from Claiborne Co. MS, Book F, pages 411-412 that states: " Lewis Clarke to P.C. Brinton, and al. Know all men by these presents that I Lewis Clarke of Claiborne Co. and State of Mississippi for and in consideration of the love good will and natural affection which I do bear to my beloved great grand daughters Piety Clarke Brinton and Frances Amanda Brinton and my great grand son John Perry Brinton I do give and grant......this 18th day of October 1821." (Gave them each a slave)... (Ed. JAA note.. maybe another generation is between Lewis & the dau who married John Brinton?) I found that a Piety Clark marr. a Daniel Wade 10 May 1832, Claiborne Co., MS. >From Katy M. Headley's book "Claiborne County, Mississippi, The Promised Land": Gibson Clark married Mary Mason ,Sept 15, 1800; Edward Clark married Charlotte Booth, Aug 15, 1801, from Pickering County records. Now, from 1799 until 1802 the the present Claiborne and Jefferson Counties were known as Pickering Co. Land grants, marriage records, tax lists and the oldest land maps of Claiborne Co. indicate that some of the people who owned land in the District West of Pearl at an early date were: Edward, Gibson, John, Thomas, Elijah, Elijah L., Lewis Clark (both Clark and Clarke used). In 1816 when MS was still a territory there were about 295 families living in Claiborne Co. Some Heads of Families were: Elijah L. Clark, Thomas Clark, Gibson Clark, Jr., Elijah Clark, Lewis Clarke, J.G. Clarke, Gibson Clarke. In 1785 Georgia created Bowden Co., which included what is now Claiborne Co., MS. In 1802 Port Gibson was chosen as co. seat of Claiborne Co. =================================== On Tue, 15 Feb 2005 09:10:04 -0600 "Betty Wood" <brwood1@bellsouth.net> writes: > Recently saw some discussion of Lewis Clark here.
