Folks, I'm back at the Thomas Clark and Stewart/d Clark issue in Pulaski County KY. The 1850 census shows Thomas Clark age 65 b. KY w/ wife Juantia (Juanita?--20 years younger) with Steward Clark age 37 b. KY w/wife Mary living next door. It appears to me that Steward was the s/o of Thomas. Working backward, the 1840 census shows two Thomas Clarks--Thomas Clark age 50-59 living next door to Steward Clark age 20-29; and Thomas Clark age 20-29 on the same page with Josiah Clark age 30-39 and also several Stogsdill families. I have a marriage record for a Thomas Clark b. 1800 who married Sally Stodgil 02 Oct 1816 in Wayne Co KY. This would appear to be the 2nd Thomas Clark enumerated on the Pulaski Co 1840 census. The 1830 census shows Thomas Clark age 40-49 on same page with Josiah Clark. Thomas Clark has a male in household age 15-19 that could be Steward Clark. The 1820 census shows Thomas Clark age 45+ The 1810 census records no Thomas Clark By my calculations: Thomas Clark 1850 census b. ca. 1785 Thomas Clark 1840 cenus b. 1781-1790 Thomas Clark 1830 census b. 1781-1790 Thomas Clark 1820 census b. bef. 1775 I believe all these Thomas Clarks are the same man, including the one whose age is given as 45+. It also appears to me that he was the father of Steward Clark b. 1813. Question: Is this the Thomas Clark who some say is Thomas Steward/t Clark? I note that the 1850 census states he was born in Kentucky, not Virginia, which seems to me to place him squarely as a member of Thomas Clark SR's family, likely a nephew of his son Stewart Clark b. 1778 NC d. aft. 1850 Madison Co AR. The Thomas Clark b. 1811 married to Pernetta appears possibly to be a son of Josiah Clark. The 1860 census states he was born in NC, however I note he has a son Josiah and a daughter Catherine, which may hint at a connection with Catherine Clark of Garrard County and thus Thomas Clark SR of Pulaski. Thomas & Steward Clark (above) appear to be missing from the 1860 census. What I'm seeing here conflicts with what I've been told about a later Stewart Clark coming to Pulaski county. I need to see whatever other documentation exists regarding Thomas Stewart and/or Stewart Clark. I've been working on the theory that the Thomas Clark above was 1) the father of Steward Clark b. 1811; 2) a grandson of Thomas Clark SR; and 3) possibly the oldest son of my Samuel Clark. I think I've eliminated the third hypothesis, as Samuel would only have been 10 years old when this Thomas was born in 1785. As the oldest son, he is the only one who could have fathered Thomas. This in turn would eliminate the possibility that Thomas SR was the grandfather of this Thomas. Thomas Clark was the recipient of a number of land grants on Buck Creek. Fay Clark
