My grandfather was born May 17, 1908, in Pinconning, MI. His birth certificate lists his name as Gary Francis Clarke, although every other record I have on my grandfather (ie. his death certificate, his marriage certificate, his WW2 papers, and my father's birth certificate) lists his name as George Francis Clarke. My grandfather's parents are listed as Edgar Almen Clarke (born 1883, died Aug. 1960) and Jeanette Porter Clarke (born 1876 or 1877 according to the age on her son's birth certificate). Both Clarke parents are listed as having been born in Michigan. But I can't find anything else on Edgar A. Clarke or his ancestors. My grandfather's birth certificate lists him as being the third child of Jeanette Porter Clarke, and a couple of internet sources list a "Nettie Porter" as being married to a Syd Stocum or Stokem and a "Ned Clark". While I can't definitively trace the Clarkes any further back than late 1800s Michigan, my father Donald Clarke Sr. did receive an invitation by mail to a "Clarke Family Reunion" in 1988. My father declined the invitation, as by that time he was living in Memphis, Tennessee, and paying thousands of dollars of my mother's health bills that were not covered by the family health insurance company.
