    3. Elias Clark, M.D. born September 19, 1808 died July 31, 1889 aged 81yrs. Dr. Clark resided in Cowling, Illinois (Wabash County) at the time of his death. He studied and practiced both Allopathic and Eclectic Medicine. He practiced in Obstetrics and surgery as well as family medicine. His first wife was Mary Polly Darrow. They were married in New York State on November 1, 1832 Their first child George was born in 1834 and lived only five days. The next four children were born in Ohio. Eight more chldren were born in Rochester Township, Coffee Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois. Mary's mother was Mary Ann (Polly) Gifford Chidester Darrow Young.(born 1790) Her first husband was John Peck Chidester. She died in 1875 and is buried in Washington City, Utah beside her son and his family from her first marriage... John Madison Chidester. Mary Gifford descends from Jeremiah Gifford and Phebe Williams. Mary's second husband was George Gilbert Darrow son of John Darrow and Hannah Fuller. George Gilbert Darrow was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.. He owned land in Vienna, Oneida County, N.Y. which he sold around 1820 and removed to the Raisin River in Summerfield Township Michigan. When he died in the early 1840s his step son John Madison Chidester went to Michigan and sold the family property and took his mother and younger Half siblings on the Mormon trek to Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother was one of forty three wives of John Young brother of Brigham Young. This was mainly a coat tail marriage of sorts as she never resided with John Young...seeking heaven. John Madison C. with his family and his mother can be then traced to Spanish Forks near Salt Lake and eventually to St. George and then a mile or so down the road to Washington City, Utah where they are all buried. I am looking for any information on Elias Clark's parentage....Is anyone out there familiar with this branch of Clark. SARA

    3. Sara, There is a publication you need to check, I quote from the following website: http://user.itl.net/~glen/doctors.html "American Doctors __Directory of deceased American physicians, 1804-1929: a genealogical guide to over 149,000 medical practitioners providing brief biographical sketches,__ published in 1993 by the American Medical Association. If you live in California, the libraries at University of California campuses at Davis, Los Angeles (UCLA), San Diego and San Francisco have this set. Also check the very large public libraries." I found the volumes above at a large medical university, and was in the reference section only. It listed my great-grandfather's university, year of graduation, type of license, state licensed and the most important, the year isssue & volume of his published obit in the AMA - 1917. One more source to check out!
